I recently got a new phone, the OnePlus 13, and I noticed that some of the images, when uploaded to my Mac with Dropbox, looks extremely blurry. I've been trying to figure out what is going on, but I have not been successful. But today I e-mailed an image to myself that looks sharp on the phone, but horrible after being uploaded with Dropbox, and noticed that the file from Dropbox is 1,3 MB and the one from the e-mail is 3 MB.

I also discovered that if I use Google Photo the quality when downloaded to my Mac is the same as on the OnePlus 13 (and also from e-mail).

So I'm wondering about the same thing that @wertupo asked in their post: "Is it possible that Dropbox is 'rushing' to snap the photo up to upload before the phone has had the time to process it? Hence the bad quality?"

Hi there, @thisismyusername, let's see what we can find about this together!

Just to make sure we're aligned, could you clarify if you're using the mobile camera uploads feature or the Dropbox desktop app? Also, is this happening with all files or just some of them?

If you export one of the problematic images to your phone, does it still appear to be blurry or not?

What if you upload an image manually using our mobile app, do you notice the same results?

Hello!

I am using the mobile camera uploads feature to automatically transfer images from my phone to my Mac.

The issue seems to affect only some images — specifically those taken in low-light conditions. After looking into it further, it appears that my OnePlus 13 applies some kind of post-processing or enhancement to these photos.

When I first open such images in the phone’s gallery, they appear blurry for about a second before becoming sharp. This makes me think that Dropbox is uploading the initial, unprocessed (blurry) version of the image.

I’ve also noticed the following:

If I take photos while in flight mode, they upload correctly (sharp) once I reconnect to the internet.
However, if I have an internet connection when taking the photos, Dropbox uploads the unprocessed, blurry version instead.

Have you tried clearing the app's cache and/or even uninstalling and re-installing the app since you first noticed this @thisismyusername? To do this:

Tap the Dropbox app icon on your Android device.
Tap Account (person icon or initials) at the bottom.
Tap Settings (gear icon).
Tap Clear cache at the bottom.

Once you’ve cleared the cache, log out of the Dropbox app, restart your device, then log back in.
