I have two Dropbox folders on my computer - how can I fix this?

i tried to open dropbox from the programs below and it offerd me to put the dropbox folder on another location on my computer and i by mistake now i have 2 dropbox folders on my desktop, i want to take one out but i am worried that if i will delete one it will sync with the cloud and folders and files will be deleted, can you help please?

Which programs prompted you to move your Dropbox folder?

In any case, though, we need to figure out which Dropbox folder is the one that actually syncs with your account.

If you go to your desktop app preferences and check the "sync" tab, you should see the actual location of your Dropbox folder.

So logically, the second one shouldn't have any sync icons within it, nor will it sync any actions you take.

Check it and let me know what you find.

Thanks Hanna for you Q, Dropbox prompted me to put the folder in another location after i tried to open it from the programs window down below.
I saw in preferences in sync where is the actual location sync and its the new location and now i think drobox is moving everything to the new location what i didn't want...

I see, thanks for the clarification, Assaf.

Since that's the case, I would suggest allowing the app to finish syncing first, before you move the Dropbox folder back to its original location.

Not sure why the app would prompt you to move the Dropbox folder in the first place, though.

Do you remember what it said or grabbed a screenshot of the prompt?

Did it perhaps mention some kind of update?

I want to stop sync and delete all folders on desktop and then sync again only selected folders, what do you think, how do i make sure its unlinked to the cloud?

Thanks for the update here, Assaf.

If all your files are available in your account on dropbox.com, you can unlink your computer by signing out of the Dropbox app or by deleting the computer from your connected devices here.

Then, you can uninstall the Dropbox app, safely delete your Dropbox folder (since it will be unlinked, no files will get deleted from your online account) and reinstall the app to choose which folders you want to sync.
