When I make files online-only all the icons on my desktop flash and change to Dropbox sync icons

If this is the update that has changed the way the icons are displayed, then its a complete shambles. We now need an extra column in the folder window to show the status of files and folders. This is completely unnecessary - the way it was before worked perfectly well. Also, when I make a folder online only, ALL the icons on the Desktop (even those that have nothing to do with Dropbox) flash in the bottom left corner of each icon between the green tick and the grey cross for the entire time the folders and files are syncing. Seriously, do these bloody developers ever actually check the side effects of their tinkering. They just can't keep their grubby mitts off things. This system was not broken, it did not need fixing.

I have resolved this issue.

I tried doing the same things I was doing in the Dropbox desktop app (moving files and folders) online in a web browser. The problem did not occur, but when I repeated the exercise using the Desktop app, I DID have the problem. This indicated to me that the problem was likely with the Desktop app.

I uninstalled, and then reinstalled the Desktop app, restarted the computer, and the problem has not occurred since (but it was still happening on the other computers) so I repeated the exercise on the other computers (and what tedious exercise that was) and this fixed the issue on all of them.

Are you a Windows or MacOS user? can you provide screenshots of the icon issue you're having?

Here are a couple of screenshots

"Before.png" is obviously before I make folders online only.

"After.png" is what happens when I make that change. This is just one screen shot but it changes continuously. The icons are actually cycling between the green tick and the grey X, so a fraction of a second later, some of the grey crosses become green ticks, some of the green ticks become grey crosses, and some remain unchanged until the next fraction of a second later. The cycle rates appears to be about 2-3 changes per second. This continues until all the of folders have finished syncing.

We have six computers at the business, they all have the same problem.

Since this looks like an actual issue, I moved your post to a thread of its own, so we can troubleshoot further.

When did you first notice this behavior? Was it after some kind of update of the Dropbox app?

Does it only happen when switching files to online-only or when performing other actions in your Dropbox folder too?

Immediately after implementing the update when it popped up on all the screen of my computers when I can to work yesterday morning.

ETA1: It also happens when I move files from one Dropbox Folder to another, including sending folders to the Recycle Bin.

ETA2: Restarting Explorer stops this icon cycling from happening, but only until the next time move files and/or folders, or set them to 'offline only'.

Can you also send me a screenshot of the syncing status and app version of your desktop app?

Apart from that, and since you initially mentioned that this is an issue with all the icons on your Desktop, is there any chance at all that you’ve enabled computer backup?
