Just installed new macOS 26 beta 1 and dropbox keeps crashing. It asks to restart but then crashes again.
Hey everyone, thanks for your patience while we got this sorted! The issue should be resolved now--just make sure you've installed the latest Dropbox beta (version 227.3.4638) to regain access to Dropbox. If you're still seeing any issues, feel free to reach out!
Hi @drp242, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
As you're running a beta version of Mac OS, it's not currently a fully tested or supported environment for the Dropbox desktop application. You can see a list of our system requirements here.
While we support a variety of operating systems, we are unable to support these versions until they are officially classified as stable.
If you're not on a Dropbox Basic plan with more than 3 devices connected, could you try an advanced reinstall of the app using the steps in this link?
Keep me updated with any progress.
I fully understand that macOS beta versions aren’t officially supported, but I wanted to post here so the team is aware and can begin addressing the issue—after all, that's part of what these betas are for.
In the meantime, I found a workaround. Someone on another forum mentioned that the Dropbox beta version 226.3.5047 worked for them, so I deleted the existing Dropbox app and downloaded the offline beta installer from:
https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101003016/beta-build-226-3-5047/836143
The installer did crash a few times initially, but I was eventually able to complete the installation, and that resolved the problem.
Thanks for the update, I'll leave this thread open for other users to comment.
In the meantime, would it be okay if I marked your post as a solution?
I just tried this beta version, and it did not work for me on macOS 26 DB1.
Are you sure? Did you remove the other version properly?
rm -rf ~/Dropboxrm -rf ~/.dropboxrm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dropboxrm -rf ~/Library/DropboxHelperToolsrm -rf /Library/DropboxHelperTools
First time, I didn't clean up but I tried again and removed all the folders and also checked if they where really deleted. Then I started the beta setup and I had to do the initial setup of dropbox again. After that, I got the same result. Dropbox starts, I see the light icon in the menu bar and as soon as it get's online (icon get's solid) it crashes for me.
@Gothier Thanks for hopping in and bringing this to our attention. The team is aware and will be taking a look into any issues surrounding the new macOS release. Nothing to report at this moment but we're on it!
I'm seeing the same issue.
I don't want to be a "me too" guy, but yes ... I'm having the same issue.
Hi @drp242, thanks for flagging this. Our team is aware and actively working on a fix that should be available soon. We appreciate your patience.
same here!
This is the exact behavior I am seeing with the version marked as solution.
This didn't work out the gate for me but after giving Terminal Full Disk Access in MacOS and then runningsudo rm -rf ~/Dropboxsudo rm -rf ~/.dropboxsudo rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Dropboxsudo rm -rf ~/Library/DropboxHelperToolssudo rm -rf /Library/DropboxHelperToolsI was able to execute the command and install the new beta version of Dropbox. Seems to be up and running just fine, everything re-synced and no issues yet.
Same issue here. How hard can it be to test on the beta BEFORE it releases to the public?
Greetings again,
I did try doing the entire remove on my MacBook M4 with the sudo commands, and reinstalled Dropbox with a fresh download … same issue. 😭
HOWEVER … when I installed macOS 26 beta 1 on my MacBook M1 … Dropbox worked fine! But no joy on my M4!
I hope that helps,
-Jeff-
I tried using the beta version as suggested by @drp242 (after doing a full rm of everything) and unfortunately that was no bueno. So, I guess I'll wait for the Dropbox team to work their magic!
Did you find a workaround mate! I stupidly thought I was downloading the beta for OS26 to a partition on my main computer (thankfully I have a second in command so all is safe re Dropbox files) the only desktop app (understandable) I’m having ache with is Dropbox desktop. Cheers
Great news — Beta Build 227.3.4638 is now working perfectly on my MacBook Air M2 running macOS Tahoe 26.0 Beta (25A5279m). Thank you for the prompt fix! Much appreciated.
And where would I download Dropbox beta 227.3.4638 from?
Hey @JeffDeMello!
You can find the installer for the new beta version of the Dropbox desktop app here.
I hope this helps!
How long will it take? Can you specify the number of days?
Hi @Pirune, thanks for your message.
The issue should be resolved now. You can enable the beta version of the app from this page on your account (by enabling early access), and then you can download the beta version of the Dropbox desktop application from this page.
Please let us know if you're still experiencing the same behavior.
Works! Issued solved - thanks for the speedy update!Removed old Version (incl. Library-Files) and then installed via Chrome (Download via Safari somehow didn't work). Used the following DB-Beta version: https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101003016/beta-build-227-3-4638/836728
When I get to the DL page, the page shows Dropbox 227.3.4638 but the downloaded version is Dropbox 226.4.5094.
Hey @RK_Florida - did you enable the 'early releases' from your account's settings first?
Hi Walter, I was using Safari which was linking me to the wrong version. I switched to Firefox and everything worked. Thanks for following up with me. This forum is a fantastic resource.
I'm happy to hear that it's sorted now and also thank you for your nice words @RK_Florida
Let us know if anything else comes up!
Where can we access that version? I downloaded the latest but it is still crashing.
Hey @UpSurge! Please follow Walter’s instructions here first.
After that, you can download the beta app version from this page.
