Recent update of the desktop app not allowing me to see .clip thumbnails in File Explorer.

I'm on Windows 11, the status of Dropbox on my bar is Up to date.

Version of Dropbox is 222.4.5042

Also, just to confirm, does the issue persist when the Dropbox app is closed?

As you can see here, the thumbnails no longer show what is in the file for this file type after the update.

It persists even if Dropbox is closed, but if the files are not in dropbox folders (i.e. I drag them out of copy-paste them onto my desktop or any other non-dropbox folder), the thumbnails show perfectly fine.

The above is showing both in the file explorer within clip studio, and the general Windows file explorer.

If you create copies of these images within the Dropbox folder (both in the same folder or in a different one), does the issue still persist?

Yes, and I can do you one better. I copied the file while Dropbox was off and the thumbnail was fine. When I turned Dropbox back on and it synced, it broke just like all of the others.

Hey @Cream, let me jump in here, too.

I hope you haven’t mentioned this already and I’ve missed it, but are you having this issue with all files that are saved within your local Dropbox folder? Meaning, not just the files that you open with Clip Studio Paint, but all other files in other Dropbox subfolders, as well?

Other than that, there has been a new stable desktop app version released in the meantime; can you please make sure your Dropbox app is updated and let me know if the issue persists?

I only keep .clips and general image files on my dropbox really. Image file thumbnails work fine. It's only files that I open in clip studio (.clip) that do this.

Wanted to say that I'm having this exact same problem with thumbnails as of last week or so - only Clip Studio files aren't showing the thumbnails in any synced folder. When the Dropbox app is closed (as suggested above), and I remove the file from the folder, then put it back in, it's visible as a thumbnail, with blue syncing logo, but as soon as the app is reopened and the file is synced, the thumbnail turns back into an icon instead. This makes navigating work files quite difficult.

Also, it seems the recent build broke saving (potentially only larger) Clip Studio files in synced folders within Dropbox as well. Dropbox attempts to save them before the files themselves are finished saving locally, and leaves behind a corrupted file, which breaks the Clip Studio file. You can "save as" an entirely new file, as the corruption happens within Dropbox, which will then sync correctly, but the leftover corrupted file remains and has to be deleted. And if you don't remember to "save as" a new file, you'll completely lose it.

I've installed the latest build you linked and it did not fix either issue. The only solution for now is to completely disable syncing, then re-enable syncing when not working.

Yes, pausing syncing resolves both issues.

However, to fix the broken thumbnails, they still have to be removed to a non-synced folder (like to Desktop), then back to the original Dropbox folder

Hello, thanks for the reply. I'm not entirely sure, as I wasn't paying close attention to the updates. However, the problem started more than a week ago, which matches the creation date of the post. Before that, everything was working just fine.

I understand. Can you clarify the current syncing status and app version of your Dropbox app?

Other than that, I assume that this is something that only affects the thumbnails of your .clip files and no other files in your Dropbox folder, correct? Are you also seeing green checkmarks next to those files?

My Dropbox version is 223.4.4909, and the syncing status shows "Your files are up to date."
So far, only the .clip files are affected, even though all files have green checkmarks.

Additionally, this issue only occurs with .clip files in the Dropbox folder. When I move the files and folders out of the Dropbox folder, their thumbnails display correctly. However, once I move them back into Dropbox and they finish syncing, the problem reappears.

I have the same issue, but with Autodesk Inventor thumbnails. Outside of dropbox - all works. Pause dropbox, rewrite file and thumbnails appear. Resume sync, and they are gone.
