Stable version refuses to sync online-only on a Microsoft Surface 7. OS Build 26100.3194.
So I think I was able to solve this. I uninstalled and reinstalled from dropbox.com (the dropbox installer app) - same issue. Even after a restart. But then I uninstalled and installed the app from the microsoft store and that one seems to be working with selective sync. So for future people on this thread, try using the microsoft store app, not the native one that comes from Dropbox installer!
Thanks!
Hi @Jon_DFH, let's jump right into this!
When you mention that the app refuses to sync online-only, would you like to share some additional info with me?
Do you try to change your files from available offline to online-only using these steps, but it doesn't change? What is the app's current syncing status?
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
I've been working with Parker in support on this for a few weeks now. He suggested trying this latest stable build. I'm guessing it has something to do with the ARM64 architecture on this device.
To answer your question though... yes, I've tried every possible method of making files online only and it absolutely will not. I had to change to selective sync on this user for just the job critical folders, which is not ideal, but it's a band-aid for now. The app is currently "up to date" on sync status with all files 100% downloaded locally.
Thanks for the heads up, Jon!
Would you mind sending over your ticket number reference, in order for me to locate it on our system and check its progress?
Sure thing... Ticket# 24699467
Thanks for the ticket number @Jon_DFH!
I had a look and I completely understand how frustrating it can be to wait for a resolution.
I want to assure you that our specialized team is actively looking into this. Since this issue requires advanced tools and expertise that aren't available to us here in the community, your case is in the best possible hands with them.
While we can't intervene in their process, I've gone ahead and raised the priority of your communication to "High". In any case, we're here to support our and answer any other questions you might have.
Thanks a bunch!
Was this ever resolved? I'm having exactly the same issue on a Windows Surface Laptop (ARM64 architecture). Locally-synced files are fine, but there is no way to have online-only folders appear - can only see them via the website, which is not ideal.
Hey @fpwilson3, sorry to see you're having this issue as well.
Just confirm, if you follow these steps, do you perhaps see your folders? And are they checked or unchecked?
Yes I did that. I can see all my folders, but if I click one, it is downloaded locally. What I have been able to do on other computers is have some folders that are synced locally, but most are visible, but in the cloud - and only download when needed. This is ideal since some folders are very large!
Thanks for the update here, @fpwilson3.
So, if you check these folders back, they will indeed sync to your computer again, but they should sync as online-only.
Do you see that they're syncing as available offline and taking up your space?
And if you sync them back and they take up space, can you right-click on them and choose to make them online-only?
Correct, when I check the folders back, they do NOT sync as online only. They download to my computer (and take up space). When i right-click on any of those now local files, and go to the dropbox menu, I get the following choices:
-Copy dropbox link
-Share
-Transfer a copy
-View on dropbox.com
-Version history
No option to change to online only. Perhaps a problem with my ARM64 processor on the Windows Surface Laptop?
Hey @fpwilson3 - could you send us a screenshot of this as well to check the syncing icon on the folder/files and also clarify the app's status and version as shown in your system tray?
Sure. System tray icon / version and screenshot of the menu attached.
@fpwilson3, have you reinstalled the Dropbox app and restarted your device in the meantime? Are you seeing the option to make your folders online-only after that?
