I get an error message on the screen when starting my PC: Dropbox is ending support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1. Then I get a message telling me to quit Dropbox. Why do I get this when I have Windows 10 on my PC?
Hey @Energirad, welcome to our Community!
Odd behavior there indeed.
Is it possible that you recently upgraded your device's OS, by any chance?
In any case, I'd love to have a visual of the error message you mentioned, and specifically the one asking you to quit the app. If you could attach it here, that'd be amazing.
Keep me posted, and we'll take it from there!
Here is a picture of the error message and the Windows version. Unable to attach attachments when I press paperclip.
How do I attach a screenshot?
You can use copy-paste or try to CTRL-C and then CTRL-V @Energirad.
I hope it's okay for me to jump in here, @Energirad.
May I ask, is it possible that when you first installed Dropbox on this computer, it was on any of the soon-to-be unsupported Windows OS versions?
Also, have you tried uninstalling the Dropbox app, restarting your computer and then reinstalling it?
NO
I will try uninstalling the Dropbox app, restarting my computer, and then reinstalling it. Will see if that helps.
Hey @Energirad, just checking in with you to see if you've had the time to try out the uninstall process and how it turned out!
Yes I have tried. Unfortunately the same result with the same message to quit Dropbox
In that case, can I send you an email in order for us to have a closer look into this @Energirad?
Ja gjerne det
Just sent you the email, I'll see you there @Energirad!
I've been having the same issue. I've been trying to fix with DropBox support staff but it's been very frustrating. I believe the issue lies with the Dropbox app auto updating itself. If I install an older offline installer like version 210 or 211 it works for a short bit until the app auto updates itself then it gets stuck in the starting up phase.
Du har med andre ord ikke funnet en løsning ennå? Hva er veien videre da?
Hei @Energirad , jeg prøver å gjenskape denne feilen nå. Hvilken versjon av Dropbox-installasjonsprogrammet prøver du med?
I'm having the same problem. I too have windows 10 Home version. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and get the same message as above. Where can I find the full version of Dropbox?
Hey @cmussells1, let's jump right into this!
The issue you're experiencing may be related to Windows compatibility settings established for the Dropbox application. To check if you have compatibility settings for the Dropbox application, please follow these instructions:
-Open Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer)-Navigate to the "Program Files (x86)" folder (or just "Program Files" if you don't see the '(x86)') located in your C: drive-Browse to the folder Dropbox > Client-Locate the Dropbox.exe file, right-click this program icon and click on "Properties"-Click the "Compatibility" tab.
If you see that the option for "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" is checked and there's a different operating system version selected in the drop-down menu, this is the reason why you see this discrepancy.
Please try this, and let me know of the results!
Ok....It was on compatibility mode for windows 8. Wonder why that is a default for the downloaded program? Anyway, I changed it and now it seems to be running but how do I sync it to the internet to download other files I installed from another computer?
Hey @cmussells1, if the app is up and running, it should be syncing any changes from your Dropbox folder to your account online, and vice versa.
Would you mind checking the app's current syncing status, and sharing it with me?
It says it is indexing 6,804 files.
I can see the files go down as it is indexing ..... so I guess its working
Thanks for the update, @cmussells1.
If you come across any other issues, let us know.
I will
Merry Christmas to ya
And to you as well, @cmussells1, happy Holidays!
Same problem here, I have installed Dropbox serveral times and tried everything but still get the message same message as Energirad. I have windows 10 for years now so it is very frustrating. This is the second big problem with Dropbox in 1 year, so I hope this will get fixed very soon otherwise I will go to Onedrive
