4 files are perpetually syncing on Mac OS, and I can't identify which files

Using Dropbox (version 212.4.5767) on iMac (OS X Ventura). App works fine. But when I pull down the menu from the Dropbox icon in the menu bar, it *always* says "Syncing 4 files"

I have no idea what these files are. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Dropbox app. And still the 4 files are syncing 24/7.

When I "view sync issues" it gives no info.

How can I determine what four files are involved here?

Could you confirm the number of files that are on your Dropbox account, and how many are in your Dropbox folder?

310,380 items are in my dropbox folder

Could you try using selective sync to reduce that number to below 300,000 files, as any number above this can negatively affect the performance of the Dropbox desktop application?

Wow thank you, I did not know this. I can easily reduce the total file number. Thanks very much for the quick reply. I'll give this a try.

I actually removed some archival files from Dropbox altogether, reducing the total Dropbox content to 279,000 files. It re-indexed but it now continues to say "Syncing 4 files"

The frustration is that I do not know what four files are involved.

Hi @bachtenor - could you click on the Dropbox icon in your menu bar and then on the 'View sync issues' option?

Do you see anything reported there?

Also, have you tried fixing your hardlinks and permissions since you first noticed this?

Yes, I have already clicked View Sync Issues several times. The only option is “personal” and there are no issues

Also I reset hard links and permissions several times. No change.

Hope it’s OK if I jump in too, @bachtenor. What I want you to try next is to open your local Dropbox folder and see if there are any files that are currently trying to sync in there. Feel free to also send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing.

Thank you for your input. I have looked through my Dropbox folder. Keep in mind there are 279,000 files. I have looked for a non-syncing file, and I see nothing out of the ordinary. All the files have the "synced" icon next to the filename in the desktop windows. But I know I have not actually eyeballed every file.

Did support ever get you fixed up? We have been waiting for a month for a reply from their advanced team with the same issues on Macs and I wondered if they were able to fix it for you.
