Hello, I have a problem with system icons on Finder.
I can't see them.
Any tips?
Hi @eferrariph,
Thanks for reaching out. It sounds like you are experiencing an issue with missing system icons. Can we try the following:-click on the Apple logo in the top left corner.-then we select Force Quit.-select Finder and relaunch.
Has this helped?
nope 😞
Is it ok to contact you through the email connected to this account?
Sure... thanks
Hi @eferrariph, before we go any further, could we check the exact version of Mac OS you're running, and the Dropbox desktop application?
Could you also click the Dropbox icon in the menu bar and let us know the current status on the bottom left?
I have the same problem. There is no sync icons on my folder. are missing on Sequoia 15.1, and the version of Dropbox is v211.4.6008.
I already restarted finder, and restart Dropbox application, and restarted computer... Does not work...
Hey @amaury_b, sorry to hear about that!
Could you confirm the location of the Dropbox folder on your machine? Also, when did this start happening on your end?
A screenshot showing the Dropbox folder without any sync icons would also help.
This will help me to assist further!
When did it start : I'm a new user (I used to use Dropbox before)
The screenshot and location :
Hey @amaury_b, I see, interesting.
As a last step, can you try to perform an advanced reinstall using these steps?
If this doesn't work, let me know.
I have also lost sync icons on two of my Macs... both running the latest versions of macOS Sequoia and Dropbox. On one of the Macs, it has been many weeks already and they have never come back... on the other machine it just happened today. I've tried everything to bring them back... restarts, finder force quits, quitting other syncing apps, loading cloud storage apps in order (Dropbox first or last), etc. This was not uncommon before macOS Sequoia, but we had the ability to uncheck and recheck Finder Extensions, and that would solve it. Now that option is gone. I also use Sync alongside Dropbox and it suffers the same issue. Reinstalling any apps doesn't help. It is a really big problem as my hard drive is smaller than my Dropbox and now I never know what is synced locally. Please get this feature back as a large Dropbox is crippled without it. Thank you.
Sorry to hear about this, @GG35. Just to clarify, did the issue come back this time right after updating the OS of your computers, or was it already present when this happened?
Can you clarify the current syncing status of your Dropbox app, as well?
Hi Nancy. The issue has existed for years, but like I mentioned, it could be fixed by toggling off/on the Dropbox Finder Extension. It was likely arising due to a finder extension conflict. Sync was the most obvious culprit, but other programs could do it as well. When I first upgraded to Sequoia, my MackBook Air lost its finder checkmarks almost right away. I have never been able to get them back, and that includes disabling Sync and several restarts and finder force-quits... and a Dropbox reinstall. My MacBook Pro did the same yesterday as I was doing a lot of extensive working with photo editing. The syncing status of my Dropbox app shows that it is fully synced... this has never been the problem. Dropbox is my primary cloud storage service due to speed/reliability and the syncing works great... it's just the finder sync checkmarks that are the issue. Interestingly, OneDrive shows the sync checkmarks properly in Sequoia, but I noticed that they have added functionality through the 'File Providers' section of the extensions settings on macOS. Dropbox is noticeably absent here. (PS - I have also tried disabling OneDrive to get the Dropbox sync checkmarks back... that didn't work either).
I have same problem and the suggestions did not help me either. Can u help?
Sorry to see that you're having this issue, @tjshemdbx
Can you let us know what the version and sync status of the Dropbox app is at the moment?
You can hover over your Dropbox icon to see this info.
Same problem. Does anyone already knows how to get over this situation at Dropbox?
Hi @marioroda, could you confirm the version of Mac OS and the Dropbox desktop application that you're running on your device?
Are you also running the File Provider version of the Dropbox desktop application, where the Dropbox folder is located in the 'Locations' area in the Finder navigation window?
I am on Dropbox v 213.4.4597Mac OSX 15.1.1
The problem still persists.
Thanks for that, @tjshemdbx! Can you clarify what steps you’ve tried so far, so that we can guide you from there?
I have tried restarting the computer. I have tried reinstalling dropbox.
It used to work and now it doesn't ...
Hi @tjshemdbx, let me also jump in here!
Can you also try to follow the steps I provided in this thread, and let me know if this helps?
If this doesn't work, feel free to send me a screenshot from the content within your Dropbox folder.
YES ... I tried force quitting the finder app and that also did not work .
Here is the screenshot below ... Please advise next steps
I had the same problem. I went to System Preferences › Privacy and Security › Full Disk Access and I turned on GoogleDrive. Yes, I didn't misspelled it, Dropbox was already turned so I turned on also GoogleDrive. After this action Dropbox status icons started showing.
Eureka... That worked ! Thanks @marioroda
oh my god, this was REAL.
I had the same problem and now just launched Google Drive and it fixes a Dropbox problem.
Isn't this a bit silly to remind Dropbox users of Google Drive. So, why, not use Google Drive only?
Solved but i need to stop and start every day... stable solution?
@eferrariph, sorry to hear the issue still persists.
Can you send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing on your end exactly?
I’d also like to know the current syncing status and app version of your Dropbox app.
Unfortunately, yes. Moreover, it sometimes stops working and requires disabling and reactivating Google Drive to function properly again. It's annoying.
