Hi
Has anyone else experienced red icon badge showing as one unread notification even after all notifications read and then deleted. Can't seem to get rid of it no matter what I try. Thank you.
Wow! That worked for me too. It was merely a matter of clicking on "show me how" I did nothing other than click on that under Sync History and Activity. Who would have ever thought that was the answer. Yes, the red notification badge is gone! Dropbox needs to be more clear about what the "notification" is. Thank you Jayne for discovering the fix.
Hi @JayneK, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
What OS and Dropbox desktop application version are you running on your machine?
A screenshot showing the notification would help greatly.
This will help me to assist further!
Hi Jay I am on Windows 10 (OS Build 19045.4170) and Dropbox Version 194.4.6267Thank youJayne1298
Hey @JayneK - sorry to jump in here, but could you try updating to the latest version of the app from this page and let us know how it goes?
I have the exact same issue starting yesterday Mar 19, 2024 as well. I have also tried nearly everything I can think of to get rid of the 1 in red box. Do I need to delete and re-install dropbox on my PC? I have not done that YET! but ready to try it. Usually dropbox has no issues for me.
Hey @hpeabody - sorry to hear about this.
Did you click on the app's icon to see if you have any new notifications?
What is your computer's OS and the version and status of the Dropbox app installed there?
YES. I had done that prior to posting here. it says ALL QUIET FOR NOW. I re-booted PC but the 1 in red box is still there.
OS is WIN7 PRO 64 BIT
Dropbox version is 195.4.4995
Dropbox status is ALL SYSTEMS OPERATIONAL
Hi there from me @hpeabody!
If I were you, I'd try uninstalling and then re-installing the app, to see if that changes things.
Provided that you still see the red 1 icons there, feel free to take a screenshot, and attach it here for me to have a visual too.

Hi @hpeabody, in this case, can I send you an email, in order for us to have a closer look into this?
@Megan Yes, that's fine
Hi @hpeabody, I just sent you an email, I'll see you there!
@Megan I just responded to your email
Hi Jay The red notification badge has gone now. I did click Sync history and Activity and this might have got rid of it? Thank you.
It refuses to go away. DropBox is so intrusive and keeps trying to get involved in one's life. It's a drag. The red circle on my DropBox icon is asking me to upgrade, which I have already done and yet the red circle stays in place. DropBox need proper software designers on board.
Hey @Hughmoz, I moved your post to a thread about the same issue.
Can you try the solution there and let us know if it helped?
yes, I have the same problem.
This icon in the system tray with a warning probably indicates that there is a message somewhere. But there is no notification anywhere in the Dropbox app. Moreover, the icon does not function properly either; Synchronization works but is not indicated with the blue circle. Can anyone help me with a solution? Thanks in advance, Wim
Here was my resolution
@Wilhelmus, have you tried this suggestion and you still can’t see what the notification is for on your desktop app?
Also, what do you mean when saying that syncing works, but it’s not indicated by the blue circle? Can you send me a screenshot of what you see?
hello Nancy,
I have now been able to solve the problem. I had done a re-install before, but not the advanced method that Dropbox suggests. So, for example, I had not manually removed the name Dropbox from the registry. I have now followed those instructions correctly and the case now works fine and my laptop is very stable and Dropbox works fine.Thank you for your response, greetings, Wim
This behavior just started with Dropbox on both of my Windows 11 machines today (Version: 23H2; Build: 22631.3593). None of the "fixes" work. See attached images.
This picture shows that the Dropbox setting is marked "Off"
And now it just went away. It was a "stuck notification". Apparently you have to read and dismiss notifications on every device that Dropbox is installed on. Live and learn. The little blue ball is gone but I can live with that.
