There is a bug with dropbox and google drive, if installed on the same machine (I am using a 2014 15" macbook pro on macOS 11.7.7)

at start up, if google drive loads first (and it always does) then dropbox does NOT show the checkmark icons (SHOWN here):

The workaround solution is, after starting the computer and waiting for everything to load, is to manually shutdown the google drive app, so that dropbox remains, and then REOPEN google drive app (so that it loads after Dropbox), and then the checkmarks appear for dropbox.

Obviously this is not normal behaviour, I hope you all at dropbox can reproduce the problem with the steps here and issue a fix so that i don't have to do the above workaround to get dropbox and google drive working on the same machine.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Hey @Henry14, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

What's the current sync status and version of the Dropbox app?

You can hover over your Dropbox icon for this info.

Also, does this affect only the sync icons or other Dropbox options as well, like the ones you see when you right-click on a file in the Dropbox folder?

Could you please clarify your device's exact OS and the version and status of the desktop app as shown in your menu bar/system tray?

I have this problem as well, running Ventura v13.4.1 and Dropbox v178.4.4811 (with status ="Up to date").

I've had the problem for several years now and I believe it's come up on the forum before.

It seems to be related to Finder extensions -- the Dropbox icons come back as soon as I disable all Google Drive Finder Extensions in the System Settings, even if Google Drive remains open. FWIW, I think this is actually different behavior than I remember from before-- I think I used to have to restart Dropbox.

For me all the icons are gone, not just the green sync icons.

Would definitely be great if this could be fixed.

Hey @Sam L.11, hope you’re doing great!

Let’s check a few things together.

First off, can you please turn off the Dropbox app’s automatic launch upon your OS’s startup (you can do this via the app settings)? After you’ve done so, restart your computer, make sure Google Drive has launched, and manually start the Dropbox app. Are you seeing the Dropbox syncing icons now, or not really?

Besides that, I’d like you to check your Finder extensions with these steps:

Click on the Apple logo located at the top-left of the screen.

Click on System Preferences. (MacOS Ventura: System Settings > Privacy & Security)

Click on Extensions.

Click on Finder Extensions.

Only leave Dropbox Finder Integration ticked.

Once this is completed, close the window.

Click one more time on the Apple logo at the top-left of the screen.

Click on Force Quit.

Look for Finder on the list.

Click on Finder then Relaunch.

I have the same problem now. Dropbox and Google Drive are synching other folders. I am on a 64-bit pc with a windows 10 pro. My dropbox is v193.4.5594. I restarted it a couple of times already : ) and it did not work.

I did have a problem with Google Drive earlier, which was not launching, so I uninstalled it back then. Now that I need to use it in a workgroup, I had to give it a try, so I installed it again, I didn't need to do any troubleshooting to run the Google Drive though, which was a little strange...

Now that I realize, dropbox is not connecting. This may be because of the recent operating system updates, or some update with either of the cloud services that came up when I was not using Google Drive.
