Here's my current understanding. I'd appreciate it if a Dropbox rep could confirm it and/or clarify if anything is incorrect.
I want to migrate from Mac A to new Mac B using the standard Apple migration assistant program. I'll want to continue to use both Macs after migration.
On Mac A, I'm using Dropbox with the File Provider API. I keep all my Dropbox files and folders available offline. I'm also backing up some custom folders (outside of my Dropbox folder) using Dropbox backup.
Here's what I believe I'll need to do when I migrate:
- On Mac A, disable and then delete the Dropbox backup.
- On Mac A, sign out of my Dropbox account. When asked, say yes to deleting the Dropbox folder.
- Run the Apple Migration Assistant to transfer contents from Mac A to Mac B.
- (At this point, the Dropbox application will be technically installed on Macs A and B, but not in use.)
- On both Macs A and B, connect to my Dropbox account and let Dropbox create a new Dropbox folder and download all Dropbox content.
- On both Macs A and B, enable Dropbox backup for the custom folders I want backed up.
Do I have things right?
Thanks.
