For the past few days, dropbox has not synced a few specific files on my mac.
I get this when I check the status in menu bar
I've cleared cache, fixed permissions, and run check disk on my mac drive and no luck. Thoughts?
Problem possibly solved, but I don't really know how. I logged out of dbox online then closed and opened dbox desktop. Then I dragged the master file (with it's sub-files) into the dbox folder. I got a message asking if I want to replace the file duplicates (which meant the files were in dbox online but I wasn't able to view them before). I answered, Skip. The sync closed, then I logged on to dbox online and all the files were there. Let's hope the issue doesn't re-occur.
Suddenly there are files in a folder that are not backed up. Other files in the same folder are backed up. Has anyone experienced the same?
Hey @StigN, thanks for reaching out to us about this.
Can you please confirm if you're referring to the computer backup feature or perhaps files in your Dropbox folder that are not syncing to your account?
Make sure to check this article as well and any additional info you can provide us, would be helpful.
Thanks!
Thanks for clarifying, @StigN.
What is the sync status and version of the Dropbox application on your PC (not the work PC, the other one)?
You can hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray to find this info.
Version 184.4.6543Uploading 4 files.....Downloading 2 files.....The up/downloading has been there for a long time and nothing happens.
Hi @StigN, can you see which files these are from within the Dropbox folder by seeing the blue sync icon?
Do they have any unsupported characters in the file name?
Hi.No, just normal letters. And they have been synced with the other Pc and iPhone for at least 5-6 years now without any problems. And of course also at Dropbox.com
AND, I can drag and drop the files from Windows explorer to dropbox.com and it works fine.It is just the automatic sync when a file is updated that are not working.....
Could you try dragging and dropping those files to and from another folder to see if this forces them to sync somehow?
Strange! One of the two files was now synced. So instead of move them back, I copied them both back to original folder.Again the same file was synced, but not the other one.
What size is the file that isn't syncing? Does moving it at all make any difference in the syncing?
Could you try pausing the syncing in the desktop app, move the file out of the Dropbox folder, resume syncing, and then move the file back into the Dropbox folder?
Hi.No change. The first file (that did not sync before, now sync, but the other file still don't sync....BUT, the funny thing is when I copy that file that want sync to another folder in Dropbox it sync.....Move it back to the original folder and it want sync!
Okay, could we try this now? After moving it to the other folder, could you access the file on the Dropbox site, and then move it to the original folder on the site, for it to sync down?
No change when I did that. BUT, when I rename the file the sync is working! Now I will use the renamed file for some days (I update it every day) and see if the sync continue to work.I will delete the original file, and after 3-4 days I'll rename back to original name again and see if the sync will work. Not easy to understand why it is like this, and it should for sure not be like this.....
Out of curiosity, if it isn't anything too personal, what was the full name of the original file, including the file extension?
Sondre's fotballkamper.docBefor you comments on the apostrophe, I use it in a lot of other documents that sync just fine 🙂
Yeah, that filename seems to be normal, so I can't explain as to why the name affected the syncing. I'm glad to hear that you were able to sync it by changing the name.
