Notification when copying files to my external drive

Dear Community,

I'm in a group and share a few files with my team but I'm not the admin.

I would like to copy some files from Dropbox desktop to my exernal drive. Do the admin get notified when I do that? Is the operation saved somewhere in the records?

Hi @ryanrud, thanks for posting on the Community!

If you have files synced to your computer, and are visible in your Dropbox folder, then copying those files to another drive wouldn't be detected by Dropbox.

This means that the team admin wouldn't be aware of the download either.

@jay if the files haven’t been synced, And I want to change them from online only to offline , the business admin would be notified??
Plz answer me at your earliest possible time appreciate

Has your team admin implemented any team settings regarding syncing (to have the folders of the team members synced as online-only)?

Not sure, by default when ai install the Dropbox app on my windows, all files are online only, But I have this option to make them offline ( syncing)
I just eant to make sure this change , woul be notified by admin or not?

Hey @Ash9352, can you clarify if you're using personal accounts or if you were referring to a team account with team members and team admin(s)?

Just note that changing the sync status wouldn't notify the admin anyhow though.

Hey again, @Ash9352.

In this case, your team admin shouldn’t be notified if you switch the syncing status of your Dropbox files from online-only to available offline, so you don’t need to worry about that.

If there’s something else you need though, give us a nudge!

Hey @DerekG, thanks for your post.

Can you please clarify if you're a member of a Dropbox Business team? Or are you and the rest of your team sharing files through individual accounts?

If it's a Dropbox Business team account, is it a Standard or an Advanced plan?

And are you on a Dropbox Business Standard or a Advanced plan?

Dropbox Business Advanced admins have access to all file-related actions of the team, including copying/downloading files from the website.
