Hi, I found this setting under Settings- Connected apps, but where can I get the Paper desktop app?
Thanks in advance!
Its currently in close beta.
If you are part of the beta you will be able to install it via a pop up on screen when you go to http://paper.dropbox.com
Hello,
I would like to join the beta program for Dropbox Paper desktop app, but I'm unable to see the popup with the download link.
Is it possible to join the program ?
Thanks a lot!
F.
Hey @floooowk, thanks for nudging us on this thread.
If you're on a Windows or Mac OS, you may be able to download the Paper desktop app by following these steps.
If not, could you please submit a ticket to our Support team and let us know the ID (eg. #1234567) that get's created so that we can have a look into it for you?
Keep us posted!
Thanks for your help Lusil, it's OK for me 🙂
Glad to hear that, @floooowk!
If anything else comes up, just give us a shout. In the meantime, hope you have a wonderful day ahead.
Hi
I would like to get included in testing of the beta desktop app for Windows.
Thanks
Any update on the Dropbox Paper desktop app? I'm a free tier user but willing to upgrade to Plus if it gets me access to Dropbox Spaces and the Paper desktop app.
Hi, how can I sign up for the dropbox paper beta desktop app for mac? or testflight for iOS?
Thanks,Steven
Hello!
It has been some time since I heard from this. Is there any update on when paper for windows desktop will be released for us and whether it will be accessible offline?
Hey everyone, thanks for your interest in this!
At the moment, I don't have any further updates to share with you I'm afraid. This is still within closed testing so we won't be able to opt anyone in to test this out but we'll keep you posted with any news.
Hope you all have a great weekend!
It has now been a year and a half... Any updates? Is this app ever finally going to come out (or even advance into open beta)? Paper was a huge part of why I upgraded and I am still stuckk on the "old" version and there is *still* no progress on the app... :slight_frown:
It's starting to look like Paper for desktop will be one of those apps that remains in private beta until it's dropped completely and never released. I didn't think Notes would be the app I missed the most after ditching Apple and returning to Windows. I'm amazed there is no decent equivalent.
Hey everyone, thanks for nudging us on this thread.
We're continuing to explore how to best bring Paper to desktop but don't currently have a set time for when the paper desktop app will go live for all customers.
Thanks for your interest!
I use the same Dropbox account on two different macs, but only one has the paper app, the other computer opens the .paper files in a web browser. How can it get the paper app on both machines?
Hi @Grant, thanks for posting here today!
On the Mac that you want to install the app on, can you open a Paper doc online and then click the "?" icon in the bottom right of the page? From there, do you see the option to install the desktop app?
Let me know if this helps!
Thanks D,
I don't see that option. See attached screen shot.
Grant
Thanks for checking that @Grant!
I'd suggest reaching out to our Support team to have a better look into this with you. To do so, you can check out your Support options here.
You can let me know the ticket number (eg. #1234567) you get if you'd like to so that I can pass along the info you provided here already.
Cheers!
Please release Paper Mac desktop app or share it with business profiles... we have more than 40 users on dropbox, depend highly on paper, and would love to have it as a standalone desktop app rather than having to open a browser each time!
appreciate it!
Hi.
How could you join the beta? Is it fine if you share the beta software to me, please?
Thanks.
Any update here? I am hearing this closed beta story since 2019. The most annoying is that the web interface suggests there *is* an app, every document I hopen in the browser suggests it's trying to open it in the app and the button at the top of the documents as well.
Is it still underway? I run my whole business through Paper so can't wait for a desktop app!!
It exists. I have it. It seems to be still in beta, but works.
It's pretty good. When you create a new doc it just automatically saves it to a default folder. And if you want to save it to a specific dropbox folder you can just move it either via the browser interface or finder. It can then be opened either from Dropbox Paper App or from finder.
The issues that have stopped me using it are that it's slow to open. It takes a few moments for the text to appear where as apple notes is instant. Also, and more of a nuance, the first line of text starts horizontally centred, rather than at the top of the page.
I'm not sure how to install it. It was just there one day.
All the best @killeraesthetic
I can't believe this is still in "beta", is this something that is going to be released? I'm a new business user, and we are considering significant use of paper, but we will likely go to another tool if we can't get desktop apps. Is there anyway to get into the beta? I mean after a year, you should allow people who are really interested to get the software.
@grant I'm curious what it looks like! Would you consider posting a screenshot?
It isnt possible to download any more as it is now built in to the new Paper 2020: https://help.dropbox.com/files-folders/paper/paper-2020-faqs
So essentially Dropbox has decided that paper will be 100% browser based except for iPhone and iPad? If so that's lame, only being able to work in a browser.
@MMartin1
Seems that way .... and I'm the same as you if I'm honest I dont like things cluttering it my already chaotic browser window!
Kind of baffling to be honest, there is are iPhone and iPad apps that aren't half bad, you can see your to dos, all your paper docs, etc. I would think it would be really easy to make the iPad app into a native Mac app. I'm struggling with Dropbox a bit with this because even the Dropbox desktop app, just opens everything in browsers and I find it a bit cluttered with files, documents and paper all mixed together. I'm sure there is a better design.
Just imagine if .paper files were actually just markdown files and you could open them in markdown editors as well, that would be super powerful.
That would be cool.
