The box icon on system tray stays at gray and says "Starting...". But, when files are changed on another computer, they are being synced. Should I be concerned? Is there a fix?
Thanks.
Hi again to all, This should be resolved now. Please restart your Dropbox desktop or mobile app and try again.Let us know if you are still receiving an errors or you're experiencing anything out of the ordinary & we can look further into it.Thanks to everyone for your reports & happy Dropboxing ahead!
thanks for sharing! glad i'm not the only one here!!
Same for macOS High Sierra ( v 10.13.6 ) with Dropbox ( v 55.3.168 ). Indicates "Starting..." but unsure if there is any updating of files in the background without indication.
Same here, also running on OS X 10.13.6
I've just submitted a ticket to support, will let you know if they come back with anything of value, does normally take an age though.
I should also note I've tried all the same steps as you, so no proxy, disable finder integration, reload etc, no joy. I'm not running on an external drive though, so assuming we do have the same issue, that would appear might not be related.
Try making an edit in some file and look at it in other device. If you have no problem with syncing but still your icon show "indexing..." or "starting..." that's happening to us.
Hey there @Sunnielynne - sorry to hear about this!
As we're getting a lot of these reports lately I want to have a better view of this issue. Therefore, I found your existing ticket in our system and replied to you there. Check your inbox for my email and get back to me there with additional information to have a look into this together please.
Thank you!
Getting exact same issue here, and have an open ticket. Jane can my ticket also be updated when there is a resolution to this, it's worst possible timing for us.
Dropbox on my Mac is stuck "starting" and won't go beyond that screen. It seems that the folder are sync'ing though.
I saw some posts and fix from 2015 and 2016, but not sure I want to apply that to my current system since it is now a different version of the operating system.
Changed the file name on the desk top but no change seen in the mobile app.
Mobile app also indicates I'm out of space.
Just found a very active thread that handles this issue, https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Syncing-and-uploads/Drop-box-is-stuck-at-quot-Starting-quot-but-files-are-being/m-p/291198/highlight/false#M42692
We are certainly not alone, I would post over there for updates, there is a dropboxer acknowledging the issue on the third page.
It's kind of a different problem.
1. Files doesn't sync, no space (even if you have space), "indexing..." (or similar) icon.
2. Files sync, no problems with space, but task bar icon showning "indexing..." or "starting..."
My problem is #2. Yours is #1.
Same problem here (sync working, but showing "Starting..." on menu bar). Using MacOS High Sierra, and latest Dropbox (55.4.171). I wasted my time re-installing and re-syncing everything - it is obviously a Dropbox issue, so let,s just sit tight and wait for a fix.
Adding my voice here.
I'm seeing the same thing across 3 computers: two Windows 10 PCs, one MacBook Pro.
Symptoms began around the same time on all 3 machines, which was some time last night, August 13th, between 19:30 and 22:30 ET.
All 3 show "Starting..." as the status from the Dropbox taskbar icon/flyout. (Previously "Indexing..." before I closed and restarted Dropbox on each).
The two Windows machines show the Recent Files history in the flyout, and the Notifications tab and the 3 Dropbox Paper / Dropbox Folder / Dropbox.com icons are accessible.
The MacBook shows a blank flyout (with a "Dropbox is starting...." message only) and the Dropbox Paper / Dropbox.com icons are greyed out.
All 3 machines have had Dropbox closed/restarted (multiple times) and have been completely rebooted without change.
Files and folders do appear to be syncing successfully between all 3 machines (and other devices) successfully, regardless of the erroneous "Starting" messaging, so this isn't actually a service-impacting bug, only a display issue.
Cant get the DropBox link to full load and turn black. All folders are checked off in Selective Sync. App just wont load, WHY?
Having issues here too. Just took in delivery of a New MacBook Pro and installed Dropbox only to find it wont go past 'starting'. I checked my old machine and the same thing is happening. Thought I had messed something up myself but looking like it's a wider issue.Running High Sierra 10.13.6 on both machines and the dropbox install on both is 54.4.90
In case it helps, I noticed this behavior starting around 6pm PST yesterday (8/13). It may have started earlier, but that's when I noticed.
Win 10
55.4.171
Dropbox Icon Stuck on "Starting" with a red square over it - with the number 1 inside.
Frozen, will not do anything else.....
Online in our Account Settings - The Tab "Plan" settings for some reason is stuck on 258GB Used out of 0GB - even though we have Dropbox Professional (2TB) and our payments are up to date.
Tried uninstalling/unlinking/reinstalling, etc....... doesnt work.
Any help appreciated.....
:-)
Same here, started today. The problem persists even if you reinstall and resync everything. Started happening today both on my windows and mac.
Same issue with Mac OS X (latest build).
Deleted Dropbox preferences and rebooted. No change.
Checked network proxies. No change.
Deleted application caches. No change.
Rebooted Mac. No change.
Dropbox icon is still greyed-out and "Dropbox is starting" message continously displayed.
The Mac app stopped syncing today and is constantly 'Strating'. My account says that I'm using 0 bytes yet I can go to the home page and see files listed. What is happening?
I have ne macbook pro 2018. Files sunced yesterday when I set up the computer. Today dropbox is stuck at starting. I have uninstalled and installed numerous times and nothing works. Even erased brand new disk and did clean install and still the same problem persists. Frustrated and don't know how to fix this and need dropbox to work with my team.
Exactly the same problem with MacOS 10.13.6- I did the same routine. No change.- Clean uninstall. Rebooted Mac. Turn-off firewall & virus protection. Install app. No change.
Dropbox icon greyed-out. "Dropbox is starting" message continously displayed.
wow, what an incredible problem! affecting all these people at the same time ... starting yesterday ( 08/13/2018 ).
hopefully dropbox has now taken note and is quickly coming up with a solution!!
thanks to everyone! let's get this thing solved!
