For the past few days, dropbox has not synced a few specific files on my mac.
I get this when I check the status in menu bar
I've cleared cache, fixed permissions, and run check disk on my mac drive and no luck. Thoughts?
Problem possibly solved, but I don't really know how. I logged out of dbox online then closed and opened dbox desktop. Then I dragged the master file (with it's sub-files) into the dbox folder. I got a message asking if I want to replace the file duplicates (which meant the files were in dbox online but I wasn't able to view them before). I answered, Skip. The sync closed, then I logged on to dbox online and all the files were there. Let's hope the issue doesn't re-occur.
Hello @bauss
My first reaction is that perhaps an application is still running and it places an 'lock' on the file in question. Is this possible?
what happens when you reboot the computer?
Same thing. Still no sync.
I'm also seeing that some of these files that aren't syncing came from windows PCs. That said, there are no characters in the names that are incompatible with windows.
Bauss
Can you answer the 2 questions that I posted? I want to help you.
Thanks buass
Okay, I reached out to my other Super Users and some Dropboxers, maybe they have an idea but I would encourage you to go ahead and submit a Support Ticket and meanwhile, perhaps others might chime in here.

Please be patient and it will take some time and please include this Thread url as it contains useful info. And Good Luck
Getting anywhere on this, bauss? I had a colleague tell me that if there is a hashtag in the script, try leaving it out and see if that it will sync. He says a hashtag shouldn't be a problem but he wanted me to check with you
I'm having the same issue. I've taken to storing Logic sessions in my dropbox after I've had a few external harddrives fail on me as an added precaution and backup measure. Just recently it seems every so often dropbox will just choose a file stored within a session and not want to sync it. I get that this may be a software lock on the file, but this has NEVER happened to me up until recently (it probably started happening about the time I updated to High Sierra). A fix would be great.
Interestingly enough, I've tried a couple of experiments. All of these I've done on a clean reboot, so theres no software locking the files or writing to them or using them.
1) Renaming the file does NOT fix the problem, dropbox immediately says it can't sync the new file name. This rules out any invalid character concerns.
2) Moving the file out of the dropbox, and then moving it back in, does NOT fix the problem. Dropbox immediately refuses to sync the file.
3) Trying to upload to the folder its residing in via the web version of Dropbox DOES work. This leads me to believe that its not a problem with the file itself, as dropbox handles it fine.
I would guess its dropbox caching a file descriptor that says the file is locked or is in use, and then failing to update or clear this information and therefore just refusing to sync the file.
@SJFarrell
Thanks for reporting here, can you submit a Support Ticket?
There seems to be something the Dropbox team needs to see here.
Just did.. thanks!
Having the same exact issue, and all the files that won't sync came from Logic Studio X (High Sierra). The same exact files and folders synced just fine, without any errors whatsoever from my Sierra computer, so this is most definitely a High Sierra Dropbox app issue.
I am having a similar issue with some font files. They've been in my Dropbox and fine for years. All of a sudden, syncing seems to be stuck, and Dropbox is reporting it can't sync the files.
My ticket ID is 7242407

I am having the same problem of Dropbox not syncing at least half of my songs/audio files (and it follows the alphabetical order that the files are sorted in a folder/path Cakewalk Projects>Audio, then the individual audio files (wave) by the song names . These files were recorded with Cakewalk Sonar (a recording program similar to Logic). Total files in the file dragged into the Dropbox PC folder is about 4 GB. There is no error message, etc.; it just completes the sync, but stops too early and doesn't complete the transfer. I tried a number of times and can't find anything I'm doing different than my usual DBox procedures. Any suggestions? I've been with Dropbox for years, but just started using it for audio backup. Unfortunately, this is a deal killer if I can get this to work and I will have to go to another service. I hope you can help.
Hello clegs
Thanks for sharing your experience. I wanted to clarify a few things. when you dragged the folders/files into your Dropbox folder, it does not necessarily mean that's it is online or on Dropbox Server, we hope that it is because it's supposed to be uploaded automatically. I just wanted to clarify when your PC asked if you want to replace the files duplicates, it just means that the files were physically there and were asking if you want to replace them. However, is it possible that this program that you use, put a 'lock' on these files? Have you tried quitting (not just closing the application but making sure it's not running in the background) to see ifs not 'locking' the file/files?
I don't know if any issues is with the filenames or such, can you look at this Help Center Article to see if anything applies to you? https://www.dropbox.com/help/syncing-uploads/stuck-syncing
Hi All,There are certain files with a folder on my system that do not sync with Dropbox. Every day I run automation scripts and the files are updated on my computer. I have selected the whole folder to sync but some files do not sync at all. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps. Can someone please advise?
Hey @akshay2023, thanks for bringing this to our attention.
Are you on a Mac or Windows computer?
Do the files contain any incompatible characters?
And what's the sync status and version of the Dropbox app, if you hover over your Dropbox icon?
These are the files that are modified everyday on my computer
I want the same files to be synced on Dropbox as well but that doesn't happen
As you can only search_query 2023-07-29 has been sync with dropbox. I want all the other files (search_query 2023-07-28.. etc) to sync as well.
I am on a windows computer and I have given access to sync the entire folder on Dropbox
I hope I am clear in what I am asking for.
The sync status shows up to date. And the version is 179.4.4917. I am using a windows 11 laptop
Hey @akshay2023, sorry to jump in here, but could you clarify how you're editing those files exactly? I'm only asking since you mentioned something about automation scripts.
Do those changes make it to our server, meaning are you able to see them reflected on your files on the website?
Hey @WalterI run automation scripts daily which updates those files. The changes only reflect on my computer and do not make it to the server i.e Dropbox online.
Does syncing work otherwise, @akshay2023 ?
Meaning, if you drag and drop a test file to this particular folder, does it sync online?
Hey @Hannah,
I created a new file in this folder. And it did sync online.Online Dropbox
Computer
I'm wondering why other files did not sync such as (search_query 2023-07-28)
Thanks for the additional info here!
Since it's only been a couple of days, have you tried restarting the device, to see if it helps?
If you quit/relaunch the app or pause/resume syncing? Do you see any difference?
