Our dropbox constantly keeps copying every file, with a copy with this in the end of file name: com.dropbox.attributes”.When we run a bad file check, it list all these attributes file, how do we prevent this?
Hello,
The issue you're seeing is a Mac issue that occurs when copying files with extended attributes metadata into a file system that doesn't support them.
Depending on the information stored in the metadata, you may or may not need these files.
These files are called AppleDouble files and more information on how to handle them can be found by searching for: "apple double files"
To avoid this issue if you have your Dropbox folder on an external drive, we recommend ensuring that the drive is formatted in the default file system format for the Operating System that is installed.
A quick fix to remove those files: from the website you can search "attributes" in the search bar.
You can select all the results and delete them all together.
Thank you!

sadly i have the same problem for more than a month and until now i didn't fond any solution ,the dropbox support very bad in solving this issue !!!
Keep pestering dropbox support about this. The issue is known to them. It occurs because dropbox is linked to two different file systems, and only one can handle extended attributes. There has to be a fix - perhaps the option to hide these files...
I have the same issue! Looking forward the solution!I use: android 4.4, win7, ubuntu 14.04
Same here! This is urgent!! If it doesn't get solved in the following weeks it's time to say goodbay to Dropbox. I'm quite ****** actually, since the support is provide ZERO support on this.
I want to increase the users but no way if this problem didn't solved ,definitely I will look for other services, very poor customer support with this issue !!!!!Ignoring this problem is killing the she quality of service!!!!
+1 voteI have the same annoying issue.
It seems Dropbox is totally ignoring our problem !!!!
Still no suolotion and dropbox continue ignoring this issue !!!!
This is very frustrating. There are a LOT of posts on this subject but I haven't seen word one from Dropbox on it. It may be time to jump ship.
Hi,
Apologies for the delayed response, but this issue should be fixed in the 3.8 series
New files of this form should not be appearing in your Dropbox. If you delete these files (via the web), they should not reappear if all of your linked hosts are on 3.8. Please let us know if that is not the case. We are working on automatically removing the existing files, but manually deleting from the website should work for now.
Thanks!
John
Hi John, I updated to the newest version and there are still those attribute files around. What next?
Hi Dario,
The new version prevents the files from re-appearing. For now, can you delete the files from the dropbox.com website? They should not come back. We are working on making this an automated process.
Well, the thing is that when I go to the website it doesn't show the attribute files I have on my HDD. As if the website is hiding those files? Not sure... they're synced after all, so they should show up as well, am I right? Guess I'll have to wait until the automated process is processing.
Thanks anyway!
I have thousands files and each of it has attributes file. Manually deleting is very painful
My Dropbox folder is still full with attribute files... when will the process start?
And John, it's been a month since I gave you the information via mail you wanted for investigating the problem. Any news?
By the way... this is what happens when I try to delete an attribute file:
"The operation can’t be completed because one or more required items can’t be found.(Error code -43)"
Please fix this. Instead of suggesting users delete the attribute files on the site (I have too many to count), it would be expected that a company such as Dropbox would be able to develop an effective solution.
This ticket has been active for a while, and yet no effective resolution has been reached.
Please advise.
All the files in a shared dropbox folder have added the dropbox.attributes extension and are now not visible on any of the computers but are still on the website. The documents cannot open with the extension cannot open. Is there anyway to restore the documents without the dropbox.attributes extension?
Hi I have loads of attributes files which I need to remove. I tried t delete them from the web but they keep on re-appearing. Anybody can help please?
I have the same issue...
Could you please give me/us more more information about the state of the solution about this problem?
Thanks,
Is there a way to automatically delete all *.dropbox.attributes files on my dropbox account in one operation ? I have thousands of files so deleting them manualy via web interface by searching for them is not a reasonable option.

TO FIX THE PROBLEM :
In the web interface, you can now scoll down to search for all files with "attributes" in the name (use the search box and scoll down until all your "attributes" files has appeared). After, you can select all (CTRL+A, or click first, hold SHIFT and click last) and delete them all together.
I did it (I had thousands of files) and it is reasonnably fast.
