I don't see "online-only" as a right-click option on my Mac, so I can free up some hard drive space

Question

In addition to syncing many files with my Mac, I need to offload at least 100GB of large projects so I can make more space on my hard drive. I know a tag "online only" allegedly exists to allow you to do this in DropBox but I have never seen it, no matter how much I right click, neither using the DropBox desktop app or the web portal. I'm using MacOS 15. Any tips for doing this correctly? Thanks!

Hi from me too, @AtomHeartFather! Do you mean that the files are still taking up a lot of space on your hard drive, even after making them online-only? Or that you can still see them on your desktop app?

Can you share with me the syncing status of your Dropbox app?

Thanks, Hannah—Your message made me realize that I was trying to do this in the wrong place in DropBox (web window as opposed to within the desktop app). It seems to be working now, though some project files seem to not delete from my hard drive even after designating the project as "online-only."

Hi there, @AtomHeartFather, thanks for taking the time to post to our Community!

The option to move a file to "online-only" should appear in the local Dropbox folder on your computer, when you right-click on a file or folder, along with other Dropbox options.

Would you mind sending me a screenshot of the right-click options that you see on the files in your Dropbox folder?

Also, what is the version and sync status of the Dropbox app? You can hover over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar to see this info.

Let me know what you find and we'll go from there!
