I was syncing a large file to my dropbox folder on my computer for 8 hours. I paused the sync. When I resumed the sync, it started over from the beginning. Why didn't it resume from where it was paused?
Thanks!
Hey there, @MattV, let's see what we can find about this.
When you pause the Dropbox desktop app, it should resume syncing from where it left off.
To help me troubleshoot, could you please share your device's exact OS, the Dropbox app version, and its current syncing status? You can find this information by hovering your mouse over the Dropbox icon in your menu bar (next to your Wi-Fi icon).
How large is the file you're trying to sync? Also, please ensure the app remains open while your files are syncing; if the app is closed, the process will stop. It is also worth verifying that your device has a stable internet connection. Once you resumed the app, did the file manage to sync?
Let me know, and we can take it from there!
Thanks Megan!
I am on Tahoe 26.2; Dropbox application version 262.4.3183.
I am syncing around 140 GB. I paused the sync and shut down my computer for the night. In the morning, it did resume but started at the beginning. Although, now that I look at it, it has accomplished in an hour what it took 8 hours to accomplish yesterday. So maybe the icon next to the file started over, but really it was loading what had already been synced and the icon just didn't reflect that?
Hey @MattV!
We cannot know with certainty what happened based solely on the icon next to the file. A better indicator is the app's syncing status, which shows if progress is being made.
However, it sounds like the icon merely indicated the re-indexing of file parts that synced the day before. 😊
Please let me know if you have any questions.
