Why is the desktop app not updating automatically on my Mac device?

Hi!

Am I not right that DropBox Desktop (I have version 258.4.3749; on macOS 26.5.2) should detect updates and automatically download and install them in the background?

This is not happening. My (third party - 99% reliable) Updater software keeps advising me that "there is a newer version". This morning, for instance, it said that 262.3.3056 is available as the latest version.

What must I be doing wrong, please? How do I correct it? If the 'free'/basic version doesn't in fact auto download updates, what's best practice in updating DropBox Desktop manually whenever I'm notified that there is a newer version than the one I have, please?

Regarding the Dropbox app’s sync status; can you try to add a small file to your local Dropbox folder, and see if it syncs to www.dropbox.com after that? Just to rule out any possible syncing issues between your computer and our servers.

You’re correct when saying that the Dropbox desktop app should automatically trace the latest updates and install them on your device.

Just keep in mind that the app version that your updater indicates (v262.3) is the latest beta one (which is experimental), and not the latest stable one, which is the one you're currently running (258.4).

To make sure everything's working properly though, can you clarify the syncing status of your Dropbox app?

Your clarification is so appreciated: I definitely don't want betas. I guess it's possible that my updater apps don't distinguish them in this case; and so should be ignored!

When was the last time, please, that a non-beta update was released? I see the Modified date of 258.4 as June 27…

I see 'Reconnecting to the Internet. This may take a moment' for synch status. Although it never does seem to complete.

Yes, I see the last stable version is the one I have :-) .

And, Yes: adding a small text file on my desktop put it immediately on the website. All OK.
