I'm missing updates I previously added to my Excel file.

Hey,

I usualy work and edit files on my PC with Windows 11 and somtime I work on the same files on my MAC.

I noticed several times already that somtime when I open a specific excel file on my PC (didn't confirm on MAC or other files) that I'm missing data that I know I added.

When I open file history on dropbox.com and check older versions I can see the missing data.

I always close the files when I finish.

This happened even when I wasn't working on the Mac between the times I edited the file.

I'm the only one working on the files.

This is a critical problem and if I can't trust Dropbox we have a serious issue.

Hi @Itay_Hay, thanks for letting us know about this here.

From your post, I understand that your updates are saved when you close the Excel file (and they also sync to your Dropbox account online), but next time you open it, there’s info missing. Correct?

To confirm, this isn't happening with all Excel files on your desktop app, right? Can you also test this on your Mac device, when you get the chance?

Finally, can you check your Events page here, and see if there are more details on what may have happened?

Hey Nancy,

First, this happend several time.

Yesterday I opened the file on my PC after a few days of not working on it and added new information.
Today I opened that file on my Mac and was looking for specific information (not what I added yesterday) so I saw that it was missing. I don't think it's relevent if I opend it on the PC or Mac.
I added screenshots. The one with the empty cell between the yellow color is the current up to date. The one with the numbers is from May 20 in the dropbox history.

I'll try to elaborate…
It's an Excel file detailing revenue and customer invoice numbers.
The changes are saved and I can open it again and everything is fine.
After a while when I open it again I see that some of the information I entered is missing, so I check when I issued the invoice, look for a file in the history from that date, open it and see the content that is missing in the file that is supposed to be the most up-to-date.

Thanks for the additional info, Itay! Can you try to copy and paste your screenshots once again in your reply? I can’t see them on the forum, unfortunately.

Other than that, can you see the info you’re missing now (when accessing the file from your Mac) on the Dropbox website and your PC, or is it gone from all Dropbox platforms in general?

Finally, did you also have a look at your Events page, like I mentioned above? If yes, can you include a screenshot of what you see there, as well?

The first screenshot is the up to date file in Mac and DropBox website and it will be the same in my PC

This is what I see if I click the event:

I downloaded these 2 files and they are the same without the up to date file. Even the files from before I added the missing data.

I don't see any error in the event log and all it says you added the file…

Hi @Itay_Hay, are you certain that you're opening the correct file? Is the Dropbox desktop application showing the status as up-to-date on all your devices?

How exactly are you opening the Excel file? Are you doubleclicking it from within your Dropbox folder, or are you opening it via Excel directly using the 'recent files' option?

I used to work in QA and testing so lets skip obvious questions.

Yes it's the correct file.

Yes the folder is up to date and it's the original copy i'm working on so why would it update from old version on the server?

I open the file from the folder and not from Excel.

About the other files that I opend from the activity log, I downloaded and opened 30 files with different name and they were the same.

Just to clarify, when you say you opened 30 different files and they were the same, do you mean that their data wasn't updated to the latest version?

Are these files located in different folders, or in the same location in your Dropbox account?

All the files from the activity were the same as the up to date file that is missing the data.
I downloaded them from the activity log from different dates and they all had the same data including data that wasn't available on that date.

Do you experience this issue with all your Excel files, or just this specific file?

If you create a copy of the file, while giving it a different name, when you edit that file do the changes get saved and synced to the site, or does the same issue occur?
