I would appreciate advice on this scenario:
I am a solo user. I have Dropbox synced across several computers: a desktop and a laptop that are in my possession, and another desktop at a family house that has been shut down for months. Now someone else needs to use that machine; I will not be present. If sync is initiated on that machine, it could cause chaos between the up-to-date files in the machines with me, and the files in the other location.
What should I ask them to do to prevent this happening?
My thought was this:
- Disconnect Ethernet before boot and disable wifi immediately.
- go into Finder and rename the Dropbox folder so that sync does not recognize it.
- then reconnect to networks.
Is this the correct workflow? Ia there something else I can do that would be under my control and not relying on the remote person's actions?
The computers are all varieties of Mac running varieties of Sequoia.
Thank you.
