Dropbox app updates are being blocked by Windows 11

Question

Every update gets the installation blocked by Windows 11 pro, up to date.

Reference is made to folders such as

C:\Program Files (x86)\Dropbox\Client\254.4.2518

but because the version number is in the folder name it cannot be added to any allowed list.

How do we stop this block happening?

About the email notifications, there is a way to turn them on if you want.

You'll need to click on your profile pic at the top right corner of the page, then on "Account & Privacy Settings" and then on "Notification preferences" on the right.

You should be able to check or uncheck the notifications and email notifications you prefer from there.

As for your issue, the "managed by your institution" messages you're getting, do indicate that there might be an institution policy in place here.

Although out of our scope, can you please take a look at this and confirm whether there's a school/work account connected there?

Sorry - in the absence of an email notice I did not realise that there was a reply.  Thank you for that.

This is a personal PC, although for some time I have been getting "managed by your institution" messages when I try to change some things - it is not run by anybody else in anyway.

I have no idea what rules to set for ASR - guidance would be appreciated.

Install as Admin?  I only run as admin … I would have though that was enough.

Most of that linked page is opaque to me, but configuring ASR exclusions does not allow wildcards, hence the changing folder name (version number) always defeats any such attempt.  I have tried that.
