Dropbox app wants to create new Dropbox folder on desktop every time I sign in

Question

I recently had to change my google password. When I signed back into dropbox, it prompted me to assign a new dropbox folder, and was unable to merge with my existing folder. It now wants to create a new folder location every time I log in. The folders don't sync, and don't seem to talk to one another. How do I restore the original location and remove all the duplicate locations?

Let's see what we can do to fix this. I'm going to ask some questions, just to get some context and make sure we're on the same page.

When you say:

It now wants to create a new folder location every time I log in.

Can you please clarify that? Are you signing out of the Dropbox app every time after using it?

Also, when you changed your Google password, was that password associated with your Dropbox account? And had you signed up to Dropbox with Google?

I should add that even when I close out of all of my files and apps the "rename" function still doesn't work, and returns the same message.
