I’d like to submit a suggestion to Dropbox.
It would be very helpful if Dropbox could support a feature that prevents two users from simultaneously editing the same document, especially CAD files used in architecture, landscape design, and engineering workflows. Ideally, the system could either show a clear warning or temporarily lock the file when someone is already editing it.
In our industry, this is an important requirement. We generally avoid situations where two people open and modify the same CAD file at the same time, as it can easily lead to conflicts and data loss. Because of this limitation, we often have to rely on alternative solutions such as Egnyte.
Our company has been hoping for this kind of functionality in Dropbox for quite some time, but it still seems to be missing. As a result, more architecture, landscape, and engineering firms are moving toward platforms like Egnyte to address this workflow need.
I hope Dropbox considers adding this capability in a future update.
