Macox, any version, I cannot remove the Dropbox contextual menu. Another thread on this topic is marked "Solved" but no solution is included, only a request to submit the request. Has a solution been provided yet? thanks!
Thanks MaxwellRogue for the advice. I wasn't sufficiently systematic to do you or @Hannah justice, for I've discovered a few facts (and my problem is resolved):
Much ado about nothing 🤔 Louis
On macOS, the Dropbox right-click menu items come from its Finder extension, so you don’t need to uninstall Dropbox to remove them. Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older macOS), go to Privacy & Security, then Extensions, open Finder Extensions, and uncheck Dropbox. After that, relaunch Finder by right-clicking it in the Dock while holding the Option key and selecting Relaunch. If the menu still shows up, fully quit Dropbox and repeat the steps, or log out and back into macOS. This removes the contextual menu items while keeping Dropbox itself working.
Hi there, @louisxyz, thanks for joining the Dropbox Community!
Please note that while it is possible for Mac computers to turn off the Dropbox context menu items, it's definitely not recommended.
Turning off the Dropbox Finder extension also means that you'd be turning off the icon overlays on your Dropbox files (green check mark, blue circling icon, cloud icon).
That means that if, for example, you run out of space on your Dropbox account and are unable to see the icon overlays, you won't see the red X icon on the files not synced online, so you might not know that your Dropbox app is no longer syncing.
With that in mind, you can indeed turn them off the way @MaxwellRogue suggests.
I hope this helps and if you have any questions, let me know.
Thank you. Impressively prompt reply! Louis
