C: drive is full due to Dropbox folder size, error when trying to move Dropbox to data drive

I'm trying to move the Dropbox folder from my Windows 11 PC C: drive to a large SSD data drive, but receive a "Some files can't be moved" error message every time I attempt the move, leaving the computer completely full.  Help!

Background - I recently noticed that photo files were not automatically appearing in the Camera Uploads, just placeholder file names, which I came to realize was because the C drive on my laptop was full, preventing further file downloads.  It was full because there are ~308 GB of photos in the Camera Uploads folder on the 500 GB SSD C: drive.  When I start the Move Dropbox folder command under the Sync menu of Preferences, it moves ~295 GB and then gives a "Some files can't be moved" error.  I've tried it twice and now have 2 almost-full Dropbox folders (with different names) on the data drive.

Any idea how to get past this impasse? Use the Advanced reinstall method with Registry edits?

Hi @Detroiter, thanks for messaging the Community!

You could do an advanced reinstallation to have the Dropbox folder located on another drive,  begin the sync, and then pause the syncing. 

Afterwards, you could then copy the files from your old Dropbox folder to the new one, although, bear in mind that this could affect medication dates, depending on how the OS handles it.

Another method might be to mark some folders in your Dropbox folder as online-only, to free up space on your disk drive, and then try moving the Dropbox folder.
