Is there a way to stop Dropbox from making all files local when I enabled it on Mac?

I recently got a new macbook and the version of Dropbox I downloaded has cloud icons next to the dropbox directory folders/files in Finder. I'm finding I accidentally hit this icon which initiates a massive download of hundreds of thousands of files from my company dropbox directory. 


Is there a way to stop this sync:


1. without clicking the folder and pressing "make available online"? (because there are very specific files deep within the dropbox directory that I need available offline)

2. without resorting to simply pausing sync (since I'll eventually have to unpause it). 


I suppose im looking for a way to abandon all syncing activities full stop if I misclick. Alternatively, would love to remove the clickable icons next to each folder that leads to misclicks.

If you clicked the cloud icon in order to download all the files to make them available offline, currently, there isn't a way to reverse this choice without making the entire folder online-only. 

As you noted, this isn't what you want, since some folders are offline and need to remain offline. Pausing sync additionally would make no difference to this system, since resuming it would continue to download the files.
