Can I opt-out from File Provider without installing it?

Update - Is this new? Here https://help.dropbox.com/installs/dropbox-for-macos-support#How-to-opt-out-of-Dropbox-on-File-Provider it seems like one can opt out after all. But one has to install it there first, which is risky if it does not work as advertized.

How would I go about confirming this option so I don't get an automatic install? Or can I prevent an update? Thanks

Hi @g v., thanks for posting here!

If I'm being honest, the goal is to update most of the users to File Provider.

However, this might not be possible if we keep in mind different criteria about the user's storage space, and device requirements needed for this.

The steps provided in the Help Center article work if you've already made the switch to File Provider, and want to opt-out. There's not an option to entirely disable your device from getting the update, if you're eligible.

However, depending on the case you might have the option to postpone it for later on.

Hi Megan, this doesn't clarify. If the goal of the company is to update most, then I will have to be among those few where it is not possible.

I have to have all my files on my hard drive 24/7. I cannot tolerate FileProvider delete all my files (1.2 TB) and redownload them (takes a week!), only to delete them again at a whim.

I have to have a setting that allows me to stop any auto-update process. Please give me more information on how to break automatic updates from Dropbox, now that it shows that I am eligible. I am sure I can delete an updater somewhere in /Library or ~/Library. Where is that?

Dropbox wont give that info I'm afraid as it can cause other issues.

All I can suggest is looking at places like Reddit etc. for advice.

Unfortuanetly at some point it will be enabled on all accounts and, more than likely, at some point become a requirement to run Dropbox - albeit that may take a few years due to how Apple is enforcing it.
