Hello, after a recent repair on my macbook pro - my Dropbox Desktop App was gone, so reinstalled it and when i click on it does nothing. Doesn't open, and the Sync option is gone and it disappeared from my side-bar. thanks for your assistance!
Hey @joshuaelectric, let's jump right into t his!
Out of curiosity, do you click on the bigger Dropbox icon on your desktop, the one looking like this: ?
Or the smaller one, on your menu bar, next to your WiFi looking like this ?
It might sound trivial, but have you tried re-starting your device, or even uninstalling and then re-installing the app?
Let me know more, and we'll take it from there!
Hi, and thanks for asking.. tapped the one in my Applications folder.. looks like this
thanks, What does deleting 'cleanly' look like?
Oh, and yes. tried deleting and reinstalling the app, as. well as restarting the laptop. tried both of these multiple times and app does not respond
Hey @joshuaelectric, do you have the small Dropbox icon in your menu bar, by your WiFi icon?
And if so, what happens when you click on it?
hi, no - that icon never arrived when i reinstalled the desktop version
Hey @joshuaelectric. Can you also try to download the Dropbox app again via our offline installer?
Are you seeing the Dropbox icon in your menu bar after that, if you double click on the Dropbox app in your Finder > Applications folder?
I have the exact same problem as @joshuaelectric on my mac mini running 14.5. Only difference is I have not yet uninstalled the Dropbox app. I am a daily user and always open the app using the black icon in my menu bar. Two days ago, the black icon disappeared. When I attempt to open using the blue icon in the applications folder, I get the message "Dropbox can't be opened."
Hi @ken_804 - thanks for letting us know about this.
Can you please send us a screenshot of the exact error you're getting, so that we can have a visual too?
Also, have you tried rebooting your computer and/or quitting and relaunching the app?
hi, I downloaded the offline installer, double clicked the icon and nothing happened. no install. please advise, thanks!
I downloaded the Offline Installer, but when i double clicked, nothing happened. no installation.. what else can i try?
The next thing I’d suggest, in this case, is an advanced reinstall. Let me know if that helps.
hi @Walter , I deleted and reinstalled. after two reboots, the problem was solved. thank you. By the way, now both the black and the blue icons are appearing as they did prior to the 4-day absence. Access to Dropbox is restored.
I'm sorry. I spoke too soon. Now the black and blue Dropbox icons have disappeared yet again and these are the messages I get when I try to access a file in my Dropbox folder (I left the folder open from the previous session when things appeared normal)
@Walter will you be responding to my post above? Dropbox is still MIA on my computer.
I have the exact same issue with the app. Running 14.5 on M1 air. Unable to access the toolbar app to select which folders to sync.
Hey @ken_804 & @saggyhaggis - could you try a clean, advanced reinstall and let me know how it goes?
hi @Walter . Completed advanced re. I can now see blue icon in applications folder but do not have the black dropbox icon in menu bar. I do have access to my dropbox files, thankfully. Time will tell if this is a permanent solution.
Reinstall worked and icon is now in menu bar.
Hey @saggyhaggis, happy to hear that the reinstall worked for you!
As for your case, @ken_804, the Dropbox icon is necessary for the app to work correctly, so can you restart your computer, to see if that brings back the Dropbox icon as well?
hi @Hannah , I restarted and it did not bring back the icon. When attempting to start Dropbox from the blue icon in my applications folder I get the following:
@Hannah , to be clear, I still do not have the BLACK icon in my menu bar
Hey @ken_804, hope it’s OK if I jump in. Can we log a ticket for you and investigate this further, since the issue still persists?
Hi Nancy, i don't believe it's possible for me to execute an Advanced Reinstall in my case since the app does not appear in my 'task bar', which clicking on it is one of the first steps. please advise, thanks
Hey @joshuaelectric. Since the Dropbox icon isn’t showing in your case, which means that the Dropbox app isn’t running on your computer, you can move on to the next steps directly.
thanks @Nancy , i believe i've tried all of the steps you've previously mentioned. do you have any additional suggestions? thanks
Hi @joshuaelectric, if you're not able to uninstall the Dropbox desktop application, please contact the support team directly for them to investigate this in more detail on their end.
Just a wild suggestion, but do you have any title bar managers that is perhaps hiding the icon?
@Nancy yes, please do. I did another advanced reinstall and the black icon appeared for a few hours. now it is gone again.
Hi @ken_804, I've sent you an email, please could you reply to it when you get a chance!
