Are Adobe applications compatible with Dropbox?

Hello. I am wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction? I'm looking for an alternative to Adobe CC Sync which is being switched off in February 2024 and I'm considering Dropbox as an option. I know there are many potential issues syncing Adobe files across different transfer protocols. E.g. Microsoft OneDrive and Sharepoint are not fully Adobe compatible and can lead to corrupted files. I think there may also be issues with Google Drive. My guess is that Dropbox is probably a good option but I'd like to research further before committing.

There shouldn't be any specific issues with Adobe files, provided that they are physically located in the Dropbox folder like any other file, and not just shortcuts or symlinks from another folder on your machine.

If there is any additional syncing method provided by Adobe (which as you say is being deprecated), then it could cause some potential issues with files.

Can you, however, give us some more info as to how you're planning on integrating Dropbox with Adobe?

Hi Hannah, sure thing.

So I'm looking for a replacement for the Adobe CC file syncing feature which is going to be switched off in February 2024.

My typical workflow involves Macs and PCs and I like to keep local copies of files I'm working on, then sync those files between machines, and to the cloud for archive. I could be working on an Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator document on a Mac, then PC during the same day due to the need to integrate with other software that's specific to one or the other platform. I need to be able to do this with as close to zero risk of file corruption as possible.

Hi @Captain Chaos, you could have your files located in the Dropbox folder, and they should sync to other devices where the Dropbox app is installed, like with any normal files.

Have you been able to test this out with some sample Adobe files to see if they sync across devices?

Hi Jay, sure that works fine, but my concern is with the transfer protocols that Dropbox uses and whether they are 100% compatible with Adobe files.

Thanks Jay. Dropbox seems to be a pretty solid solution for my needs. I’ve read Hannah’s linked Adobe integrations article too, which points in the same direction.
