Mac backup 0% complete, 'Backup now' is grey, says will complete in 1 sec but no movement.

How long did you give the computer time to complete the migration for the Dropbox Backup feature?

It can take time to move the specified folders into the Dropbox folder to back them up.

This will help me to assist further!

I too have the same problem, backup has been left four 45 mins and there are no files in the backup folder

If you check to your backups page online, what do you see?

The online page shows the backup but with 0 bytes and no files in the folder

I'm having the same issue:

Dropbox version - 185.4.6054 (185.4.6054)

Mac M1 - Sonoma v14.0

Dropbox says the last backup was 11:17am and I'm set to backup every 15 minutes.

Note the 0% backed up message and the Backup Now button being inactive.

My folder on dropbox shows all of the folders created that should be in the backup but they are all empty, no files backed up.

Hi @Dr Mark, could you try turning off automatic backups to see if you can back it up manually using the button?

The sync status is 0% on the backup and the app says up to date 185.4.6054

Hi @aid11, are you able to manually backup using the steps in my previous post?

The back up now button is always greyed out and cannot be selected

Could you try rebooting your machine to see if this helps?

Thanks for your help Jay. I have deleted the download and started the process again just in case i missed any steps in setting this up, again not all files have backed up and remain empty. I will give it another 24 hours and keep you posted if the back up progresses.

If you clarify your device's OS version and if you've tried any of the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the OP, I'd appreciate it.

Hey Walter, I'm not sure what you mean. I am on Microsoft WIndows 11 home, and downloaded the latest version of dropbox.

Hey @jwnicholsdds, regarding the sync status and version of the Dropbox app that Walter asked for, you can find that if you hover your mouse over the small Dropbox icon in your system tray, by the computer's clock.

I encoutered the same issue.

Under the Dropbox Backup Page, it stated "done" under the status, but "0" in size (graph 1)

When i clicked into the sub folder, there is nothing there (graph 2)

When i hoved over the dropbox icon, it showed some messages (graph3) which i am not familiar with

Can you help to resolve the issue

Let's see what we can find, so we can get to the bottom of this.

In graph 3, it appears as if your Dropbox application is indexing a Dropbox system file; has the sync status changed since or is it still stuck on that same message?

I have exactly the same problem as everyone else here.
Support team, please note and acknowledge that in this whole thread everybody seems to have exactly the same problem, with matching symptoms:

- Updated status remains at 0%, even after hours
- Backup section on DB website shows folder with 0 Bytes (without subfolders or files)
- Sometimes message says Backup Complete
- Automatic Backup cannot be effecitvely be deactivated, because Manual Backup Button (Backup Now) stays gray

OS: Win 10, current Dropbox version. Restarted DB. Restarted PC.

admittedly, I had given up on this in the meantime and concluded to just cancel my Dropbox subscription and to another service. However, I'd decided to give this a last chance.
So here is the information you requested:

The Dropbox version is: v200.4.7134
The status is: "Updated" ("Aktualisiert/Alles auf dem Neusten Stand")
The progress bar for the external drive I want to backup is stuck at 0%.

As mentioned, my problem here appears to be exactly the same as that of many other users (including Mac users) in this thread.

I wanted to ask for a screenshot of what you see on this page. Are you able to delete your backup from there and start over?

Also, was the external drive unplugged from your computer at any given point, while Dropbox was running/backing up your files?

Hi @Nancy, you see a screenshot above. As also reported by other users in this thread, the Status says "Finished", but the size of the backup remains at 0 Bytes and there are no subfolders or files. I have dis- and reconnected the device, but only after nothing happened for hours. I have now repeated my backup attempt by only selecting one folder on the 1000 GB external SSD. However, this backup does not happen either.

One more question: I did not yet try to delete my backup, since the wording of the menu entry is somewhat ambiguous and my trust in the DB software is now limited. Is it 100% ensured that the content of my external harddrive (the to-be-backuped data) is not affected or deleted by deleting the backup?
