Someone is working on your shared file alert not working

Hi all!

My dropbox alert when someone is editing the shared file is not popping out anymore. Before, whenever I am editing a shared file, an alert would pop out on the right hand side saying that XXX is editing the file so I would just message the person that I'm using it. Now, it won't let me know anymore and the only way I will find out is when there is a conflicting copy or when I realize that my previous edits were not saved.

How do we fix this?

Are you referring to the Dropbox Badge that appears on Microsoft Office documents?

What type of file are you trying to edit?

This will help me to assist further!

Hi Jay,

Yes I think it is the dropbox badge (blue icon on the middle portion of the right side of the window). The type of file I am using and editing is microsoft excel.

Are you seeing the badge next to your documents when you edit them in Excel?

Are the other users editing the file from Excel on the machine, or via the Dropbox site?

I don't see the badge when I am editing the files. The others are using the excel file and not on the dropbox site.

Is the Dropbox desktop application have the syncing paused, or is it quit entirely?

Is the Excel file and xls or xlsx file? Is it disabled in the preferences of the desktop app?

The excel file is an .xlsx file. Regarding the preferences, all of them are turned on.

Is this occurring on any Excel file you're using? Is it only in this shared folder? What about other Office files, like Word documents, does the Badge appear there?

What OS version and Office version are you running currently?

There is only 1 shared excel file we are using that is on the dropbox app. We haven't tried adding another word/excel file to share. OS version is macOS monterey version 12.5, while the excel is version 16.72

Could you try testing this with another new test Excel file, just to see if the Badge opens up on its own?

In the desktop preferences, is it set to always show, or only when others are present?

Just an update: I tried creating a new excel file and shared it with the teammates, and the icon still doesn't appear on the righthand side of the excel file

Hi @ksl0588, sorry to jump in, but I wanted to mention that you should be able to find the Dropbox Badge options in the desktop app's preferences, under the General tab.

Could you take a look and let us know what you find?

Hi Walter, upon checking its already "Always show" for the dropbox badge.

Could you try disabling that option and re-enable it for us, Ken?

Just tried disabling and enabling after a few minutes but the badge still isn't appearing

Hey @ksl0588, can you check the Dropbox application's version and sync status, please?

You can see this info, when hovering over your Dropbox icon.

Can you also please double-check that you've enabled Accessibility for Dropbox in your Finder preferences?

I just ticked the checkbox for dropbox and accessibility and after I reset dropbox. But when I opened the shared excel file the badge still isn't there.
