I use Dropbox on a Dell laptop running Windows 10 and on a Mac running MAC OS10.12. Dropbox will no longer support MAC OS10.12 in June. How will this affect my ability to use Dropbox on my Dell laptop
Hey @MWoodsMusic, thanks for joining the discussion here.
I'm afraid that there's no other option apart from upgrading your computer's OS to a supported desktop environment.
in addition, you should be able to access your Dropbox account and files normally through a web browser.
I wish I had a better answer than this, Mike.

It won't affect your Dell at all. Windows 10 is still fully supported.
THANKS!!!!
Will Dropbox no longer support MacOS 10.12.6 as well? Or just 10.12?
Thanks
Hi @rebnj, I hope you're doing well, and I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.
As of June 27th 2023, the Dropbox desktop app will no longer work on any Mac device running macOS 10.12 or older.
Please note that your data in Dropbox is safe, but you will not be able to access it through the Dropbox desktop app unless you update to a supported operating system.
I hope this clarifies!
Will I be able to access Dropbox.com on my MAC with MAC OS 10.12 using Google Chrome as my default browser?
So what does this actually mean for us business clients who pay you a monthly fee and have been doing so for years?
I don't use the app, I have files synced in Finder. Are you telling me I can no longer drop a file into the folder in Finder to sync something?
"Just upgrade your operating system." This is not an actual solution. We use 10.12 because business specific programs can not run on OSs higher than that. My machine works perfectly fine in all regards but because Dropbox has made this stupid decision to cancel support we are going to be stuck. Your solution is for paid clients to shell out $1000s of dollars every few years to buy new Macs when there is nothing wrong with the older ones, which will screw up currently working programs and workflows, just to keep using your app!? Are you serious?
I understand that but if macOS 10.12.6 is newer than 10.12, wouldn't my data still be supported?
If not, then would I have to use the Dropbox web version to work on my documents?
Hello, I have been having no luck with tech support on this but it seems in June, we will no longer be able to use Dropbox on our Mac running Sierra 10.12. Does anyone know who to call or how to appeal to Dropbox decision makers to allow us to continue using our software that seems to run perfectly well? Upgrading is not an option because all other software would cease to function. Thank you for your help!
Alternatively, does anyone know if I install Dropbox on a virtual machine running 10.13, would it be able to sync folders in the physical 10.12 machine?

There is no appealing changes like this. Older versions of operating systems often fall out of support by their manufacturer. New technologies are developed in the newer operating systems and companies like Dropbox need to shift their development to make sure their product will function properly. Often, these newer technologies are not compatible with older operating systems, so as Dropbox develops for the new, it causes problems running on the old. So while your computer and Dropbox run fine now, as new versions of Dropbox are released it will eventually stop working. The new versions won't be compatible with your computer, and the older version you run now won't be able to connect to Dropbox anymore.
Hey all, thanks for posting here!
You can always use our website, no matter what.
We regularly release new versions of the Dropbox desktop app with additional features, better performance, and security enhancements, and these are not always compatible with older systems.
Apple stopped providing security updates to macOS 10.12 in 2019. We are ending our support of the Dropbox desktop app for these operating systems to keep our product offerings in-line.
If you need anything else, let me know!
Thank you for your reply.I understand that logic but I am looking for a workaround.
What do you know about running Dropbox on a virtual machine running 10.13? If my Mac is running a virtual machine can Dropbox synchronize folders on the physical machine via a bridge?
Hi @Pip5, we cannot indicate whether this would work fully as expected as this is third party software and may have unexpected configurations. We do have some general recommendations that may help.
For Dropbox to work correctly, it needs to be installed in an Operating System (OS) that is not part of a Shared Session. If installing into a virtual environment, it would need to be installed into a user account that is part of this virtual desktop or virtual machine and only accessed by that user account. The Dropbox folder should also be located on the same mounted drive that is running the virtual machine or virtual desktop.
Please be aware that if you install Dropbox on a virtual machine or virtual desktop that are non-persistent, such that they are reset on a schedule or after logging off, Dropbox may be logged out and need to resync everytime this occurs.
I hope this information helps. I'm going to keep the thread open, for others to share their input!
Hi, Megan,
You wrote: "As of June 27th 2023, the Dropbox desktop app will no longer work on any Mac device running macOS 10.12 or older."
Just to clarify, does this mean that the Dropbox desktop app will work if one updates their OS from Mac 10.12 (Sierra) to Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra)?
Thanks.
Yes, this is precisely the problem. In order for Dropbox to synchronize the folders on my desktop with my colleagues' desktops, I must upgrade to 10.13. But in that case I will lose functionality of many other apps and software that I use on a daily basis. I have decided to never upgrade beyond 10.12 for many reasons and I feel deeply betrayed by Dropbox which works seamlessly. I see no reason to discontinue its functionality. Even if Apple is no longer releasing security updates for 10.12, we should be allowed to continue to use our computers as they are currently configured and working.
Happy Monday @DC02!
Absolutely. If you choose to update your OS, you can continue using our app on a higher macOS environment.
Let me know if you need anything else!
Thanks for confirming that the Dropbox desktop app will work on Mac OS 10.13 (High Sierra). I assume that Mac OS 10.13 will then be the oldest version of Mac OS that will be supported by Dropbox as of June 2023?

Correct.
The same problem here. Year signin the app and now I can't use anymore. Do I have to through my mac away???
Hi @leomontenegro, if you're able to upgrade the OS to a newer version, you'll be able to run the Dropbox desktop application.
If not, you might be able to access the site via the browser, though, bear in mind that access there too might be affected since the newest versions of browsers don't run on the older OS, which is a requirement to access the Dropbox site.
Hi guysMy dropbox has stopped working/syncronising and can't find it in ''Finder'' on my mac no longer. My mac is an old one and it has an operating system OS 10.12.6 and I got this email recently from dropbox: ''''Hi Morten, Dropbox is ending support for macOS 10.12 today. Users on unsupported operating systems will no longer be able to sync to Dropbox on desktop and will need to use our web version or our iOS or Android apps to access Dropbox.''
I don't seem to be able to upgrade my operating system via app store or anywhere else (software upgrade is not showing is not optional), so my questions are these: Is it possible to upgrade my operating system anyway, or do I actually need a new computer to still be able to use dropbox!? (Which is kind of crazy and far out if that is the case!?). Is there anyway to use it online, so that my documents will still be updated and can I then login from different devices/computers and do these devices also need an upgraded operating system in order to work? I find this quite insane I must say. I have 2 perfectly working mac books - (from 2010 and 2008 but they work very fine) and find it kind of a ''bully-method'' to operate like this. And of course no access to a living being in support. So bad service!Does anyone have a solution? How do I make Dropbox work again?Thank you in andvance - and maybe a recommendation to another filing-system than dropbox that doesn't make use of these bully-methods? Thanks guys
Hi @MortenH, I've merged you to this thread to keep similar queries together.
You can have a look over the earlier posts to understand the changes with the system requirements for the Dropbox desktop application, and why they were made.
So what you say is that I do need a new computer? Kr
Morten
If your computer can't upgrade to a newer OS, and you want to use the Dropbox desktop application, then you would need a newer compatible device to use it.
I just expeienced dropbox desk crash on my work Mac computer and found out it is no longer support 10.12. but I want to know if it is syncing when I still use dropbox desk after june because Now i checked dropbox website and I am missing a lot of folders.

No. Dropbox no longer supports macOS 10.12. Support for it ended in June.
