Dropbox and Windows 11 - not autostarting

Tried that (144.4.4491) - on reboot still no tray icon but DbxSvc exists in Task Manager. File moved to Dropbox folder didn't appear on other devices until I forced Dropbox start (when 3 additional Dropbox tasks appeared in Task Manager as did tray icon).

Go into Windows Settings/Apps/Startup and make sure Windows hasn't disabled the startup of Dropbox.

Thanks, that found it - I had looked there previously and it had been set to start.

Oh dear! This morning it's still set correctly but Dropbox didn't start up on it's own.

Hi @Neil_Stanley , sorry to jump in here!

When you access your app's preferences, in the General tab, there should be an option to start Dropbox on system startup. Can you ensure that the option is checked?

If that is indeed checked, then I'm afraid you'd need to do an advanced reinstall as Jay suggested, while unlinking some of your devices.

Nothing in General - all other locations are ticked as start on start-up.

I'll have to try the full reinstall with both iOS systems detached from the account - might be a day or so.

Are you referring to this General tab in your screenshot? We're referring to the Preferences in the Dropbox desktop application which can be access from the system tray.

This has always looked like this.

It'll be a week or so before I get a chance.

Been away so hadn't been able to try anything until this morning.

Started by using the Settings option to delete Dropbox installation from the PC. It hung, so I looked for the Dropbox program folder and used the delete option there. That worked.

Downloaded and re-installed Dropbox - didn't auto-start so I checked the Settings. Wasn't selected.

Selected it and restarted, and all seems ok now. (Mind you I haven't restarted again and again since!)

No way in the world am I uninstalling and reinstalling Dropbox. I have large amounts of files that would unsync then resync.

Hey @TERRACE_87, thanks for the nudge here.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the Dropbox application on your computer, won't affect the files in your Dropbox folder.

Once it's reinstalled, the application will just re-index your files to check for changes.

Are you having some kind of issue that you're trying to troubleshoot?

I think my firewall started to block programs, affecting which open at startup (Windows 11 PC.) No matter what I did I couldn't get Dropbox to open at startup. After my message here I ended up uninstalling the Windows app of Dropbox and reinstalling it. I had to set up again which folders to selective sync but it looks to be back to normal now.

In Windows 11 Dropbox has been set to "Start Dropbox on system startup).

Ok. Now I understand that the dropbox icon must be on the Windows desktop and Dropbox must be running for Dropbox to appear in the windows system tray.
Dropbox used to automatically appear in the windows system tray on bootup of the PC. How do I tell Windows to automatically launch the Dropbox icon on the desktop when the PC is booted?

This might just be the answer I've been looking for! Will give it a try. 🙂

Yes. Didn't work. Dropbox still not starting on Windows Startup.

Didn't work. Dropbox still not starting on Windows Startup. Dropbox was set to start at Windows Startup just like the screen shows.

When Windows was restarted, somehow, the Dropbox switch was turned from on to off.

Problem solved! An app called CCleaner was turning off Dropbox at Startup. Turned CCleaner switch to off at startup and turned Dropbox on and voila! Dropbox now is in the system tray! Thank you so much for your help!
