I have .mov file I created in which the audio sync is correct on my computer (Mac). But when I upload the .mov file to my DropBox account, the audio is out of sync in the copy on DropBox.
How do I fix this?
Thank you!
I figured it out. The file on DropBox is fine: when I DOWNLOAD it, there are no sync issues. So it looks as though the problem is opening it from DropBox. The playback Codecs playing from the Web site mess up the sync. But as long as the file is fine, my co-collaborators will be able to download it.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Thanks for clarifying that for me, @MrMisterHarris.
I'm having the same sync issues . The file is fine , it's just the Dropbox playback .
When viewing files on the Dropbox website you're not viewing the original. You're viewing a transcoded preview of the original file. The conversion process is rarely perfect and can often times create undesired results, especially in videos. The preview is not intended to be used to stream the original file. It's just a preview of the original.
To view the file in its original form, you need to download it and play it locally. If it's out of sync when you play it on your computer, then it's a problem with the file or video player that you're using.
Thanks Rich .
It would be great if such a disclaimer appeared when previewing . At least until the issue is fixed .
I use Dropbox (pro) to preview my film work for clients. It just doesn't look very pro when it's out of sync!
Making people download files isn't ideal , especially when the preview function on youtube pruvate clips works fine .
As for the ZIP download issues on large files. Well , that's a whole other story
Hey @MikeyL, sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this.
I just wanted to check with you if you've tried previewing the video(s):
Let me know what you find!
Im having the same issue as well Lusil. I typically use Chrome, but have tried in Safari, Incognito mode, on my cell phone (Pixel 3), Mac and Windows Surface, and the issue persists on all platforms.
A member mentioned earlier, the audio not syncing properly only appears in the preview version - When downloaded to a device, the issue seems to resolve itself.
Hey @tedddybass,
Thanks for trying out some initial troubleshooting - definitely helps in giving us a better understanding of the behavior.
I've sent you a ticket to the email associated with your Community profile to have a better look into this matter with you.
Looking forward to hearing back from you!
Hello Lusil,
Is there any development around the issue?
Im still experiansing the issue.
Hello Jane, Sure you can reach me on the email connected to my profile!
Hey @ArtyomK; how are you today?
As my colleague @Jane is currently out of office, I just went ahead and sent you an email so we can dig deeper into the issue you seem to be having.
Whenever you get the chance, please take a look at your inbox for my message and get back to me there so we can pick this up from there.
Thanks a bunch!
Hi, Any updates on this? I also use dropbox pro to share scoring drafts with filmmakers and ad agencies and it is almost 100% consistently out of alignment audio/video wise in preview mode. Please address this!! Enough people are dealing with this and we are paying you every month to use a professional service!

Thanks for reporting this @melguerison!
Can you post a (sample as a test) shared link to a (also sample, test) problematic file so I can have a look on my end?
Could you also let me know if you've been through what has already been suggested in this thread?
On a side note, I removed your email address from your post for security reasons. If you like to look into this with our support team and account specific info, please log a ticket by clicking on the 'Contact support' button on the upper right corner on any page you navigate within our Community.
In either case, please keep me posted!
Thanks for looking into this. Here is an example. [removed by Moderators for security purposes]
It occurs with just about every HD video. I assume it's something to do with the compression creating a noticeable difference in the audio and video
Thanks for the sample shared link @tedddybass!
I think I know where you got your nickname in our Community now - great fishing skills (if that was you in the video after all) by the way!
Also, I think you're onto something here as you mentioned that it happens with HD videos in general and only upon previewing those files on our website.
At this point, we'll need to investigate further with all of our tools at our disposal so please let me know if you'd like me to reach out via the email address you've connected to your Community's profile.
Thanks for helping look into this @tedddybass!
I just sent you a brief message so please take a look at your email's inbox and we'll take it from there.
Talk soon :envelope:
PS: By the way, I'm removing the shared link to the video in question from your post to prevent bandwidth issues. Thanks for sharing in any case though
I can't believe how Dropbox is bad currently, I'm using it for years for my business and now I can't anymore.I'm a video editor and I'm sending videos to my clients all the time, and they keep asking for revisions just because videos are out of sync on Dropbox preview, and they last longer with black screen on the end without a reason. There are no any problems with my files when I'm using a player to see them on my computer.Does anyone have same problem?
Hi @AlonerCRO; welcome to our Community!
As your query seems to echo this discussion here, I moved your post under this thread to keep things neat around our Community.
Can you let me know if any of my previous suggestions (clearing your browser's cache, trying an incognito window or another browser) improve this at all?
If not, may I reach out via your Dropbox associated email address to have a further look internally?
Same issue here...would be great to see this issue addressed.
Hi there @Guitan; thanks for joining our discussion here.
Would you mind providing some additional info about the issue you're noticing along with any troubleshooting you might have performed to make sure we're on the same page?
Uploaded quicktime video in various codecs...playback is out of sync. Had to use Google Drive, where no issue existed.
Hey,
joining the thread on this-I am exporting out of a Logic Audio session-same issue with audio/video not in sync when streaming-local file is working fine. I was in a 48K session converting to 44.1 for the QT movie-I think that when streaming-something is happening because of that conversion-I exported a 48K QT file and it streamed in sync. I put my session into 44.1 and exported a QT file and that also streamed fine. Try not converting audio when exporting and see if that works. Again-my local file worked fine-it was just streaming that was out of audio video sync.
Hi there fellow dropbox users,
I don't remember this happening to me in the past and I have been using the same set-up for months but the problem has been happening for the last two weeks so I'm kinda lost.
I use a Samsung S7, a MacBook Pro 16" 2019 with Catalina and I have the dropbox app on both. Basically I upload videos from my computer onto my Dropbox and then I export the video and save it to my device on my phone so I can upload that said video on Instagram. The problem is that every time I do it now, the audio of the file that's been saved on my device is out of sync...
Anyone knows what to do?
