One of my files reported that it wasn't compatible and had 0 bytes?

Please help!!! I'm a professional writer and i've been working between my imac, macbook pro and ipad for years and everything syncs together perfectly until today. I went to open a file to work and it says zero bytes and not compatible. It does this on all my devices.

This happens to me all the time. Talked to Final Draft about it and they say it's a problem with Dropbox and isn't there issue, but I've never had this issue with any other application that syncs with Dropbox before so I'm guessing I know where the real problem lies. Thankfully, Final Draft and Dropbox save versions of each save so just go into the backups on the Final Draft app or Dropbox and resync the older version. It's a pain in the butt, but thankfully you won't lose much. Hopefully, Final Draft will fix this issue, but for now just always be safe and save your files in multiple places.

Hey @cdavison23 - sorry to hear that!

Could you please provide a screenshot so I can have a visual too please? Also, have you restarted your devices lately at all?

Note that our latest version of the desktop app is 58.4.92 and on your iPad it should be 114.2. Are you running these versions? Moreover, is your desktop app showing "Up to date" or still syncing changes?

Keep me posted on your findings and we'll take it from there. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Hey Walter, Thanks for responding. I've attached two screenshots showing the files with zero bytes and they all have the same date and time for some reason. So i'm guessing it happened then. The other screenshot shows the desktop syncing app is up to date. And they are all up to date on all of my devices. And yes I have restarted all of my devices. And the desktop app is saying up to date.

Thanks for the reply @cdavison23 - how are you today?

From what I see in your screenshot (very helpful, thank you for that) the files you're talking about are .fdx files (Final Draft files) - do you have the appropriate software to open those files on your affected device?

Could you share a screenshot of the error you get when you try to open them? Also, when you close (i.e.quit) our desktop app, do you still get the same error?

Let me know what you find please.

I took a screen shot of what it says. The first window says the file is not compatible with this version of final draft. Which is weird but i have every version going back to final draft 8 all the way up to current 11. I tried opening with all of them. And yes when i close the desktop app and restart it, it does the same thing. I even went to the website version of Dropbox and it also shows zero bytes for these particular files on the website.

Sorry to repeat myself yet I would like you to try opening this file (or files) with our app completely closed (you mentioned that you closed it but restarted it). If you get this error with our app closed this means that the file(s) in question might be corrupted in some way yet I would also check with Final Draft directly (as the error you get comes from their application) - have you contacted them by any chance?

Moreover, could you tell me how are (or were) uploading those files to Dropbox? Did you see those files take up more space at some point in the past (perhaps when you initially uploaded them) ?

@cdavison23 did you by any chance get this figured out?

I'm having the same issue with my .fdx file showing as 0 bytes after I worked on Final Draft Mobile and tried to saved it (exited the script so it would upload to Dropbox). Now it both shows as 0 bytes on Dropbox.com and won't open on either my devices (iPhone and iPad).

No unfortunately there was no fix. I did luckily have another backup of the file that I was able to locate. The Dropbox file became corrupted somehow.

Yuck. Thanks for the quick reply.

I think mine FD Mobile had an issue syncing to Dropbox and I lost about an hour worth of writing from this morning. The last Dropbox backup was from before I started working offline on my ipad.

Seems like there should be a local save on the FD mobile app in case there's an issue syncing to Dropbox...
