Dropbox not syncing files

I use my dropbox a lot, but for the past couple of day I guess it hasn't been syncing my files? I was just going through the folder and most stuff has the green checkmark, but the most recent stuff has the blue syncing icon. The status icon says "connecting". My computer is connected to the internet so I don't know what the issue is. Using the dropbox program on windows

Thank you for posting more information.

The files reside in the Dropbox folder on your hard drive so restarting your computer won't cause files to be lost. After your computer restarts and the Desktop Client loads again, it will merely continue syncing from where it was prior to the restart.

Since you mentioned that you have a Basic account, please confirm that you're not over your storage space limitations (eg: 750 MB of 2 GB used).

Hello, @phoenixfury7...

I'm giving you a few suggestions to try in case I'm not around when you come back to post your progress. Worst case senario is that we can alleviate a few culprits as the cause.

First, let's start by checking your current storage space level since you didn't specify what type of account you use (eg: Basic, Individual or Team).

How much storage space is available when you look here (eg: 900 MB of 2 GB used)? If you're over your storage quota then your files won't sync (upload).

In addition, be sure to run the bad files check as instructed in the Help Center article.

Also, what version of the Desktop Client are you using (hover mouse over the Dropbox icon).

I recommend that you try the newest stable build (offline installer) vs any beta versions that are available (eg: v49.3.67). After installing it, please restart your computer. Be certain that you use the same Dropbox login credentials when you sign-in to the Desktop Client.

PLEASE NOTE: To prevent from receiving early releases of the beta versions of the Desktop Client... login to your Dropbox General page, scroll downward to the "Early Release" section and make sure that it's OFF (view screenshot below).

I have files that I've saved in the dropbox folder on my computer but they aren't syncing so I can access them on my phone.

Then when I try and move those same files from that dropbox folder to my computer's hard drive they are just short cuts.

Can anyone help me? These files are university notes, pdfs and transcripts I need for upcoming exams and I'm very worried as I need to access the original files.

Hi @borghz, thanks for posting on our Community and sorry to hear about your syncing issue.

To have a better look into this, could you tell me if the desktop app is running normally on your computer?

If so, is it showing 'up to date' in your system tray/menu bar or is it still syncing?

I'm a longtime paying subscriber of Dropbox. Recently, I have been locked out of my files with an error message saying that they are not synching. When I go to dropbox.com to look at my account info, it says I have no content. But I can see that the files do exist from my tablet. It's possible that my subscription lapsed, but before I pay I want to know that the content that does exist does not get deleted.

my dropbox is saying that i am syncing files but it's not really syncing. what should i do? I tried to restart the laptop and i tried to change my internet but nothing works

Hey @fitzgej, thanks for bringing this to our attention.

Even if for some reason your files are no longer syncing, you should still be able to access them, but let's see what we can find out about this.

Can you double-check if your tablet is linked to the same Dropbox account, under the same email address you're using to sign in on the website?

The mobile app is a reflection of your online account, so the files should be there.

Does syncing seem stuck or is it just really slow?

it says syncing 67 files without saying the approximate timing but I am not syncing that much files

Could you also clarify the app's version that you're using? Also, how long is the app stuck syncing the same amount of files?

I’ve moved a number of files from my PC desktop to Dropbox on my PC. They display on File Explorer on my PC. When I look for those files on the Dropbox app on my iPad they don’t appear. Does anyone know why this happens and how I can get the files to appear on my iPad?

I upload two files using the desktop app. It even asked if I wanted to replace. I checked yes. Several hours later, the files have not been updated. Dropbox is losing dependability. What’s going on?

I loaded photos from my phone onto my account on the Dropbox page. I'd like to edit them on my computer but I don't see them. I presume the website and computer need to be synched but the directions provided by Dropbox have no baring to what is on the website. I presume the directions are out of date. (This is deplorable considering how much Dropbox chargers). Does anyone have up to date directions on how to synch computer and website? Thank you.

Hey @tomballard, thanks for reaching out to the Dropbox Community.

Assuming that you've already installed the Dropbox desktop app to your computer and you've signed into it with your Dropbox credentials, the first thing you need to check is the version and sync status of the app.

You can hover over the Dropbox icon in your system tray/menu bar to see this info.

Does it show as "up to date" or do you see any error messages?
