Closing DropBox Webpage during long sync

I just upgraded from the free account and am now uploaing a large amount of photos to Dropbox. I have kept my Dropbox account pwebage open and am seeing the files uploading. Is it necessary for me to continue to keep the webpage open or may I close it out and the files will continue to upload? Thanks in advance for your help.

If you mean the Dropbox icon in your menu bar, then that's the Dropbox client, and it has no impact on uploads taking place through a web browser (Safari, Firefox, etc.). That will pause syncing for the local copy of your files (files stored in your Dropbox folder) but does nothing for the website. Closing the browser during an upload that's taking place in the browser will simply cancel the upload, regardless of the sync status of the client.

If you have the client installed, then there's no benefit to uploading through the web browser. It's often slower and much less reliable. Just put the files in your local Dropbox folder and they'll sync to your account automatically.

If you upload via the website then you cannot close that page.
If you upload via the desktop icon on your computer you can as you are moving the files to your local hard drive first.

As I assume you are NOT moving to your local hard drive and using the website option because you are using selective sync then yes, your machine needs to stay awake and the web page open.

If you're uploading files through the browser, then closing the tab or the browser will cancel the upload. It needs to remain open for the upload to finish.

If you use the Dropbox client on your computer instead, it will continue syncing your files in the background, and will even pause/resume the sync process if you need to power down, etc.

Thank you for your quick reply! Yes, I believe I am uploading through the browser as I did a drag and drop directly to my account. I'm on a Mac and I see the application icon in the upper left showing the recently changed files. It does give me the the option to pause syncing. They are loading from an external hard drive to Dropbox and I have chosen not to have them sync to the computer itself using the the Selective Sync option. There are so many that I don't want to bloat up the space on my computer's hard drive. Does that make any difference in the procedure you have outlined?

Many thanks! Looks like the computer will be syncing for a few days. It shows 13!
