What does http://www.dropbox.com/referral_status show? Note that they need to have download and installed it to a desktop device. Mobiles do not count.

Dell_Dropbox wrote:In short, No, leaving the shared folder from your account does not delete it from the owner or other members. However, that isnt quite what was asked. If you delete the files without leaving the share then YES it will also delete from the other persons account.

You need to log a ticket at http://www.dropbox.com/support for help. Note that it may not be possible to get access to the account. sargan wrote:Could you advise what I change to make files shareable without an account. Recipients only need read/download access . I am not sure you can. You can try and go to http://www.dropbox.com/links and click on the three dots next to the file. That will let you, possibly, alter settings to 'Can View'. If not,…

What does Dropbox say if you mouse over its icon on the status bar before you do this?

AC727 wrote:It never used to do this, it would sync as soon as I saved it even if I kept the document open to keep working on it. When you reinstalled did you install newer/updated software? This is actually quite common if the file is in say Word/Excel as they put a lock on the file and it wont 'release' until its closed.…

Jordan14 wrote:just checked my dropbox (Dropbox basic) after months (maybe a year or two?) Thats your issue I'm afraid. Free accounts have the data wiped after 12 months of inactivity. There are multiple emails sent out before this occurs, however, once it happens the data is not recoverable I'm afraid.

AC727 wrote:I've never had this prompt before and I can't work out what setting I need to adjust to make it stop That isnt a Dropbox pop up (well the error is, but the save command causing it isnt). Whats happening is the program you are using is trying to save the file to a different location - called Backup. Open up…

As you are in a Team there is nothing you can do - the Team 'owns' your account, you give it that right when you join the Team. You need to ask the Team admin to remove you from it. If your account is showing a fresh account it sounds like the data has already been removed and so its not recoverable - but again, you need…

Dropbox doesnt remove storage unless you havent used it in a long time (12 months) at which your account is reset. When was the last time you used it? What is http://www.dropbox.com/events showing? Also what about http://www.dropbox.com/account/plan ?

There are a few options: * Ask for a read only shared link instead - as then you access via the link and it doesnt impact your quota * Ask for the shared folders to be reissued to only the directories you need (if under 2GB) * Get additional space. Shared folders use the quota of everybody within it unless you are part of…

Is that the message you get even after the advanced reinstall?

It should be almost instant. Does it upload if you manually uploaded a file? Are you on WiFi or cellular?

Yosra wrote:but I’m still hoping someone here might know a workaround or has had a similar case. The only way would be if you had a device connected to Dropbox that had them stored locally and not sync'd to the cloud. Dropbox cannot, at all, recover them. violetarodriguez wrote:If I manage to find the events, is it possible to recover files before the 30days period for my current free subscription if I upgrade my subscription now? Simply put, no it isnt. Sorry Changing your log in doesnt change the account in anyway, just the email on it. Do the other files still appear?
-
Just to add @"FranciscoLagos" the purchase isnt retroactive. So if you purchase now you wouldnt be able to recover anything over 30 days old which is often where the error comes from. You also cannot purchase the add on without being a paid plan. So, you'd need to be a paid plan member and then you can add things on.

This is the link from mine, but, it could be as I have had some: https://www.dropbox.com/get_help/requests If not, hopefully, a Dropboxer will see this tomorrow and help :)

DTBH wrote:Would there be any difference if the data was in a team folder linked to my account? No. Unless you are on a paid for business plan (i.e. the company gives you a licence) you need to have enough quota in your account.

DTBH wrote:If I drop down to the basic personal plan, can I still access and transfer those 30GB of files that the 3rd party has linked to me via their Business account? No. You would need enough quota on your account to be able to access those files. https://help.dropbox.com/storage-space/over-quota…
