FINALLY found it...for anyone who may have this issue later (like me, I'm sure I'll forget)...Dropbox account page...gear in the upper right...manage default apps...clear. I'd been checking the three dots in the file folder, and checking Dropbox defaults through the Samsung app folder, which of course didn't work.…

I restart Dropbox every time I turn on the computer, as I manually close/exit the app before every time I shut down my computer. I would really prefer not to reinstall or sign out/into Dropbox as EVERY time I do this on my Windows 11 machine, Dropbox seems to forget my settings and tries downloading everything and I have…

Sorry it took so long. I tried today to move the folder to the desktop but for some reason there's no option to move, only to copy, so I did that. Copied to desktop, deleted the version in Dropbox, then copied the desktop version back to Dropbox. I thought for sure this would work but the red X persists. :( I notice when I…

Nothing new and no new errors under "Activity." Just an old passcode and share notifications from years ago. Version 258.4.3749. Though I've been having this issue for a while, it might have started in a previous version. I even checked to view hidden items, there don't seem to be any, and shouldn't.

Hm, additional question, I just noticed in my screengrab that the "modified" time/date on the folder in question changed when I made it offline and online again…is that normal? I don't think my Windows 10 computer does that.
-
Android app seems to be working.
-
I don't think it's an issue with the desktop app. After seeing others in this thread mentioning the mobile app, and the Web version, I just checked and I'm experiencing the issue not only on a Windows 10 computer, Android tablet, and Android phone, but the website (Dropbox.com) as well. (I haven't checked my Windows 11…

Been experiencing this in the Dropbox for Android app the past two days. Just tonight, it started on my Windows 10 laptop as well. Bizarre.
-
Following this thread, I'm curious if anyone else is reporting the same issue? I haven't turned on my Windows 11 computer in several days and was planning to, but I've only just (maybe) fixed a previous conflict between Dropbox and Windows, so I'm worried about experiencing the same issue when I next boot up.

I finally SEEM to have made everything I want online or offline. (Only took five hours. ;_; ) Remains to be seen what happens the next time I turn it on, as I said, it seems to randomly change settings on its own, and the sync icons are unreliable.

More folders than I'd thought. I literally made these available offline already, now I have to do it again for some reason. Dropbox apparently does change settings at random. EDIT...AGAIN it started downloading things I told it to keep online. I stopped that (red X's on the folders instead of a cloud?—they changed to a…

I finally made all folders visible (despite Dropbox's warning about them taking up hard drive space, this IS the setting you choose to make them visible but online only) and then right-clicked to choose which ones to make offline. I was almost done when Dropbox suddenly started downloading all the files I'd told it to keep…

Okay, so...I just turned my computer back on to uninstall and suddenly the online/offline menu is back. :/ I didn't do anything, it's even still the same version of Dropbox plus I've had no Windows updates. I don't get it, I hope the issue doesn't recur. I tried making a folder available offline and it worked. Cross…

"You mentioned that 'syncing/downloading offline' and 'making folders visible on the hard drive' are two different things, but that the app conflates them. Could you elaborate on that? I’m not entirely sure what you’re referring to. Are you talking about Selective Sync by any chance?" When you sign out/in or install…

A question before I try uninstalling/reinstalling, I mentioned already how when you first sign in to the app, it warns you your Dropbox is big and to choose which folders to sync and make visible on your computer. Syncing/downloading offline, and making folders visible on the hard drive, are two different things, but the…

I guess when I next turn on the computer I'll have to try the basic uninstall/reinstall, the advanced one looks too complex for my understanding. If it begins to download all my files though I'll have to abort (if possible :/ ).
-
One detail I forgot, don't know if it matters. When I signed out and back in, in addition to making me choose again which folders to make visible or offline/online (again, I've learned that these are two different things, but Dropbox itself mixes them up when making you choose visible folders by warning you your Dropbox is…
-
I decided to try logging out and back in first as that seems easier. Frustratingly, this made me again choose which folders to make visible/sync to my computer, and that's tedious and the instructions are misleading--I want all my folders VISIBLE on my computer, just not all OFFLINE. Dropbox instructions conflate the two…

The Dropbox help link I was directed to to try this fix ( https://help.dropbox.com/installs/access-windows-registry ) is what provided the commands with quotes around them, the page says to copy the commands exactly as they appear. I literally hit the "Copy" button provided on the help page itself. :/ So I think perhaps…

I use a PIN to log in to Windows, so I don't know if the "Reset your password" solution would do anything, plus it's a relatively new computer so I don't know why the account would be out of date. And fiddling with the registry is too complex for me. So I tried the second solution, fixing folder permissions. And it won't…

Is there a way to tell if it's already installed with admin privileges to save myself the trouble? I'm fairly certain it is.
-
Turned the computer back on, started Dropbox (it's not set to open on startup). No change. Tried restarting and also quitting/restarting Dropbox. No change. Syncing status: Up to date. I can't get a screenshot of the menu when I right click as I don't know how on Windows 11, so here are photos I had to take with my tablet…

I can confirm that any .txt file I try to start a new line with through the Dropbox website editor, it isn't working on my laptop. So it's not a device- or file-specific issue. I see no option to create a new .txt file or copy an existing one on the Dropbox website, unfortunately. I think I'd need to do that through the…

Admin privileges...oh dear. Windows 11 has known issues with those, even when enabled as they are on my computer, they don't always grant you full privileges. 😞 I'll see what happens when I turn the computer back on though I assume it'll still occur, it wasn't initially like this (last autumn), it appears to be an update…

Hey! This happened to me this morning. I figured it was simply because the file was so long. Brave browser, Samsung tablet running Android for me.
-
Oh my God, thank you. 🙏 I didn't understand this distinction but it makes more sense now. There were still hiccups with Dropbox repeatedly trying to download files without my permission, which hangs up the sync (this is a longtime ongoing issue, I think maybe a conflict with my antivirus though I'm unsure), but I kept…

Screencaps of my Dropbox folder as it currently appears--no folders--and the Selective Sync options in the app, I want these folders to show up, just with contents online only. I have 350GB hard drive space. [Removed as per Community Guidelines]

Just cleared my cache. Haven't tried a different browser yet, but this is what the forum reply box looks like for me. There's no option to insert an image. Let me test posting a link again using a couple of methods: Edit: Nope, didn't work, either directly inserting a link or using the link button. I have to break my links…

I can't post links, or even images such as screengrabs since the forum style has been updated. Others have commented on the same issue.

"Did you mark the folder itself as available offline, prior to moving them to the other folder you mentioned, instead of manually marking each file as available offline?" Yes. It was all marked to be offline, always. I created the folders (though not the files) on Windows, they've always been offline. "What is the default…
