  • Hi @"Sqetch" Dropbox cannot delete the files on its own - something on one of your devices has initiated it. When they reappear back online click on one of them and click on 'see previous versions' and it'll show which device did it - look there as to what happened. The usual ones to look at are removable drive? network…
  • What does Dropbox say if you mouse over its icon on the status bar? Are other files syncing correctly?
  • There is no way to recover via Dropbox I'm afraid (unless you'd uploaded a previous none password protected file in last 30 days/free user or 180 paid).
  • Is this the password to the actual file itself (i.e. if you download it and open in, say, Word, you need to input a password) or a one for a shared link?
  • You can try and log a ticket at www.dropbox.com/support. However, they have repeatedly said here that without access to the email address, there is no way to prove ownership of an account. The same goes for paid for or free accounts. For paid accounts they help payments get stopped but not access.
  • Unless you already have an account logged in on another device there is no way of gaining access: https://help.dropbox.com/accounts-billing/settings-sign-in/lost-access-email-cant-change-password
  • Dropbox can only charge if its give a card number to charge. So, if you did NOT give it to Dropbox you need to speak to your card company because its fraud.
  • Note: I dont work for Dropbox. I'm just a paying user like you.
  • Are you a free user at all? If so have you checked www.dropbox.com/account/security to make sure you dont have more than 3 connected devices?
  • @"smcrow" wrote:I have control of the email but it has multi-authentication. You'll also need access to the multifactor then.
  • @"Richie_Cutler" wrote:So this, according to Dropbox FAQ''s is incorrect then ? Dropbox Backup is designed to back up your content in one direction, from your device to the cloud. If you want to edit your content after backing it up to Dropbox Backup, you'll need to do so in the files or folders on the original device. No,…
  • Hi @"edwardsmay" It isnt possible to swap payments between accounts. The only work around is to move the email addresses around but you'll need to recreate shares etc.
  • @"Richie_Cutler" wrote:This is a backup company who claim to have 180 day retention and can recover files deleted by a hacker yet they cant. It is all false promises. No, it isnt. Its a cloud syncing tool. Plus. All backup systems and procedures state you should have at least 2 totally separate back up methods - so if…
  • So that shows you have set up Dropbox backups as @"Rich" said. You need to disable Computer Backups and then delete the actual Backup to regain the space; https://help.dropbox.com/organize/how-to-use-dropbox-backup
  • @"SomeoneGodly" wrote: Hi! No, I have no device that can access the old Dropbox account nor the old student account. But the old Dropbox account still exists, but I can’t access the one-time security code as it goes to my old student e-mail account that doesn’t exist anymore. Regards, B Without access to the email its not…
  • Unfortunately if things are permanently deleted it means exactly that - there is no way around it. They'd be in bigger legal trouble if it turned out that the permanent deletion tool actually didnt. Where are your secondary backups? Restore from those?
  • If it uses your email simply request a password reset via www.dropbox.com/forgot and then log in. You can then close it at www.dropbox.com/account. All logs available are at www.dropbox.com/account/security. There are no other IP's etc.
  • @"gary5" wrote:People are downloading files and It shows no record of it and I'm not getting notified. Is there a tech support dept? I'm paying for a service that I'm not getting the services from. Please advise. www.dropbox.com/support with as much information as possible (i.e. the file links, date it was sent, rough idea…
  • @"haimrevivo" wrote:Hello, Thanks for the reply. Support page do not help. This is what I'm trying to say. Then you have a second account with a subscription and so need to contact support to work out what it is set up under as Rich said.
  • @"SVG2" wrote:When you say legally required what does that mean and how do I go about it? I read that Dropbox does not refund but honestly I can't actually get this payment pulled off right now. It means that refunds are not given unless they have to by law - thats in the terms you agree upon sign up. Usually this means…
  • You will need to contact Support at www.dropbox.com/support. Note that refunds are only issued where legally required: https://help.dropbox.com/plans/refund
  • @"Rymdkejsaren" If its available to you it will be at the link shown above
  • Preferably use the desktop application OR upload in much much smaller blocks
  • The timestamp is often when the deletion finishes, so, ignore that, however, the fact is correct. Dropbox isnt intended to be stored on removable media and so when it was disconnected (but Dropbox running) Dropbox has seen that as a deletion of the folders and so replicated it. You can restore via the website. Be careful…
  • Possibly a really daft question to ask @"JasonGreenwalt" but have you checked Dropbox is running and showing at the top status bar with no errors?
  • Hi @"Metro_Kun" What you are seeing is expected behaviour. You have a 3TB account and so YOU can store files to that quota. Others, however, do not and so cannot benefit from it. If they need read/write access to a folder they will also need to pay to upgrade. Your increased quota doesnt benefit them in anyway shape or…
  • When you were using them in Dropbox did you turn them back to local files BEFORE moving them out of Dropbox? That is what you need to do. You may need to put them back in to Dropbox and see if you can redownload them to offline access.
  • At no point does Dropbox ask for ANY payment details unless you go to www.dropbox.com/plans OR you agree to a trial. If you agree to a trial it is VERY CLEAR throughout the setup and onboarding what happens and when you will be charged. It is dead easy for you to test this yourself @"SD6" - simply set up a new account via…
  • Its probably linking back to what is still there - especially if syncing was still happening. I'd set it up in a new location if I'm honest and then if needed move it to the location you want it.
  • Hi Like most things when you set the free trial up you are told it'll convert to a paid one after the trial ends (you are also emailed this quite a few times before charging). Therefore if you do not cancel in time you pay. All I can suggest doing is contacting Dropbox via www.dropbox.com/support and ask for help, however,…
