No it wouldnt work any different, And no Dropbox doesnt use its own symlinks for most people - the issue is as you said - it cannot sync whats on them and when it does it does so sporadically and not in real time as it should.
-
The issue will be that the symlinks are set up to work on YOUR machine (i.e. 'Users\Ray'). That means that on every body elses machines it will be looking for the same folder which obviously wont work as that doesnt exist. I'm afraid there is no work around other than moving the files in to Dropbox and symlinking the…

There is no way to do this natively via Dropbox. You'll need to either get a third party app/extension to do it or download the files to your computer and use the standard slideshow settings within them.
-
My gut instinct is that it WILL use quota up as the only thing that doesnt is deleted files. Technically these files are not deleted so I imagine they'll use up quota. I'm going to add to the question list though ;o) by asking how long do they stay archived? If undeleted I imagine indefinitely. It may be worth checking…

Personally Anthony I find it so so so much easier to just pretend the Photos Timeline doesnt exist - as that is about as useful as it is! Once you remember that the Timeline is just a screengrab of all your images and not much else its easier to process.
-
I'm not sure what the issue is (you really need to let people know), however, the last line of that coding does give you a clue in that the API being used is the old v1 system which has been depreciated.

This thread is YEARS out of date Andrey - Dropbox themselves have been doing it now for awhile. Its called 'Smart Sync' which you can read about https://help.dropbox.com/desktop-web/smart-sync [This thread is now closed by moderators due to inactivity. If you're experiencing a similar behavior, feel free to start a new…

As previously posted requests for changes need to go in to the Feature Requests area - https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox/Bring-back-the-green-synced-checkmark-in-the-system-tray-Dropbox/idi-p/246363 Im closing this thread so that no further posts can be made and they are added to the correct area (where they are then…

Have you tried installing the most recent versions of Dropbox to see if that helps? www.dropbox.com/downloading

It should in theory work for a database as well - as long as everything has uploaded and downloaded to another machine before being used, however, the difference between Office files and databases is its a lot LOT harder to fix if a database becomes corrupted compared to a Office file!
-
You've missed a step between 5 and 6. Before it sync's it index's the files (THIS is what takes the time usually). At this point, no, it will know that there is a difference in the data between what is on your machine and what is in the cloud. It will then download the 'newest' versions of the updated files as needed.…

It isnt forgetting the stored credentials it is changing the files that have been changed - i.e. the locally created/modified data has changed, or, in the case of something like Excel where the last highlighted cell was. The backup process also does not store the database correctly usually (for safety so that it couldnt be…

You cant create a log file I'm afraid Helen - no such feature exists.
-
Thats why so many people have stopped doing the betas - as nothing is changing.
-
Lots of threads with official replies around if you read them, but, basically they lose money on them as too many people downgrade from the higher paying tariffs.
-
Please remember that you are using Dropbox on an unsupported Operating System so if it isnt working 'off shelf' its unlikely it will work. You can of course try logging a ticket as Jane said, but, as its unsupported I'm not sure what they will be able to do.
-
@"Jim5" Unfortunately there is no solution to that as there is no need for selective sync on a mobile device, and, unfortuanetly Dropbox simply is not intended to be used in the way you are using it - it is intended that it is used 1 person / 1 account.
-
Hi MichaelQC. Basically..... Dont. It wont end well. In fact its really almost impossible to do because they are not designed to work like that. Mail will require exclusive access to the files/folders when its open and for Dropbox to sync so will it. You are also looking at a massive risk of data corruption if you sync…
-
I, personally, think thats the best strategy with lots of backups JUST IN CASE! :)
-
@"Clarence L." - please tell me this isnt what you guys now class as a change log?!
-
Note: I'm using the new Professional Plan and *can* see thumbnails on files but they are *very very* slow to appear initially.
-
Selective Sync removes everything from the local machine - so that folder and directory will not exist on it at all. So, no, you wont be able to view thumbnails.
-
The issue with opening the files is that, unfortunately it DOES change the file. Especially in Office files. This is because it updates the files to the last place the cursor was or the last selected cell etc. It also updates the 'last modified' dates on the properties tabs.
-
No it isnt as long as you are running a recent version of Dropbox from www.dropbox.com/downloading.
-
You are correct. You can only join as a subscription service (as it states when joining). However. You can cancel the renewal as soon as you pay which means you keep your plan for however long you've paid for but it wont renew. So I could upgrade today, pay for a year and instantly downgrade at www.dropbox.com/plans. I'd…
-
Or, going the other way, why dont consumers read emails and not ignore the repeated warnings of the impending auto renewal? It isnt Dropbox's fault that the emails they've sent have been ignored.
-
Because its a very new change - and unfortunately it is impossible to update all the previous threads

Dropbox has been having service impacting issues today. All, however, have now been resolved: https://twitter.com/DropboxSupport/status/919191619445784579 Just to try and keep things tidy (and so in future others dont use this thread) I'm going to close it.
