  • There are two questions that been brought up in this thread: * Why is Windows Server 2008 no longer supported? * Why weren’t we informed about this change? For these questions, I can provide the following answers: * Windows Server 2008 was never officially supported * If an OS isn’t officially supported in the first place,…
  • As Rich said, a 'shared link to a folder' and a 'shared folder' are fundamentally different. The first is read-only and can be accessed even without a Dropbox account. The second allows users to edit files in the folder, but they need a Dropbox account of their own.
  • We still support Windows 7 and above, only Windows Vista recently became unsupported for the desktop app. In general, a blank login screen, or any issues during that specific setup phase of the Dropbox desktop application is connection-based issues. This is why I suggested checking out anything that can affect the…
  • While we don’t know what could be released in the future, I can forward this suggestion to the dev team for their consideration so they can look into this possibility to improve the service when using the Dropbox site! [This thread is now closed. If you have a similar or new question, you can ask here.]
  • Just to check, the doc you’re editing on Word, is it one that was previously downloaded from Dropbox when you were online, or simply created in Word offline, and then chosen to upload for the first time to Dropbox? Have you tried unlinking and relinking the Dropbox account with Word to ensure the connection is stable? Let…
  • Yeah, proxies and firewalls do cause these blank windows since they can't make a connection to the Dropbox servers. Keep us posted with any updates!
  • Let us know how you’re sharing the folders so we can provide the most accurate assistance to your query!
  • This is correct, if you complete 32 referrals (shown with the :white_check_mark:), you no longer earn any extra quota from referring other users. The tick showing the 500 MB quota will also vanish for all successful referrals after that, showing just ‘Completed'. [This thread is now closed. If you have a similar or new…
  • While Rich is correct, there’s a small workaround for Windows 10 users without Smart Sync… Try installing the Windows store version of the Dropbox app. This is essentially the same as the mobile app. All your folders appear there like the site, but nothing is stored locally, again, just like the mobile app. You can upload…
  • Hey there, It’s possible that you chose to permanently open using the built-in Dropbox PDF viewer. When you select an app to open the file, you'll have the option to use this app "Always" or "Just once." Choosing "Always" sets this app as the default app for opening this type of file from Dropbox. To change or clear your…
  • To add to Rich’s words, the account plan page tells you what proportion of files are shared or private on your account. This way you can easily tell if shared folders/files are taking up a lot of space on your account, so if need be you can remove the shared folders from your account.
  • Yeah, that’s correct, on Mac devices, the Office apps need to be at least 2011 or 2016. For Windows however it can run on versions 2007, 2010, 2013, or 2016. [This thread is now closed. If you have a similar or new question, you can ask here.]
  • We’d like to look into this further, could you please email us and forward a screenshot of both what the doc should look like, and what it previews as in the app? This would be great so we can forward it to the appropriate team!
  • Sorry for the confusion, it doesn't mean that Windows 10 is the issue, but sometimes strict security measures can prevent programs from booting up on purpose. Since you're on a home PC, it's unlikely, but there could an anti-virus or security program that could be doing this. Let us know what happens when you reinstall the…
  • It might be due to other restrictions on your computer. However, try reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application to see if it re-enables the startup option for you: https://www.dropbox.com/downloading
  • Keep us posted with any info, @"denisefbatalha" !
  • We’d recommend for any users who are still experiencing issues to write in to us so we can investigate this further, as it appears that only certain users are getting this error. https://www.dropbox.com/support/email/dropbox_app/submit Thanks in advance!
  • Hi Kit, how were you able to see who was on a file? Were you editing the file online, or using the apps on the machines themselves? Did you have the Dropbox Badge running on both devices, which would then show if someone was in the same document elsewhere? https://www.dropbox.com/help/business/badge-overview If so, what…
  • That’s correct, this is because the login screen for the Dropbox desktop application emulates a browser to render the page. If the page is blank, then as has been mentioned, a proxy, VPN, firewall, security software, or even ISP/router settings are blocking or restricting connections to Dropbox servers. Despite that, in…
  • And Word or Excel crash regardless if the Dropbox desktop application is running or not, when you navigate to that folder? There is a small possibility that this is an Office issue. Could you see if there any updates for Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.? Like my previous post, it might fix any issues in that program for any…
  • Sometimes features are revealed on the day, and we see it at that moment here. We can’t see any potential releases, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll never happen. As Rich said, the moment something is on the web and can be viewed with a URL, it can be copied: - Right click and view the URL to save it using a third…
  • Actually, when I view version history, if you click the filename on the left, you'll be able to immediately preview that file, and then on the top right you’ll get the options to either restore to that version or to directly download the file. See the following images: Could you try testing it out to let me know if it…
  • The trend I’ve seen so far in this thread is that users are reinstalling the Dropbox desktop application and the app works again. Then again, it doesn’t work, and Terminal commands work. And then again, they don’t. Since we don’t have these issues here, I can only speculate that perhaps installing an update for High Sierra…
  • The telling point here is that even with the Dropbox desktop application closed, you’re still getting errors when saving Word documents into that folder. If the Dropbox app did affect things, then quitting the app would only make that folder a normal, non-syncing folder, as with all other folders on your computer. Does…
  • My query was just to see if they had the gray icon, that’s all. Could you check if you’re running a beta version of the Dropbox desktop application. You can do this by hovering your mouse over the Dropbox icon in the system tray or menu bar. It should say something like 41.4. If it says 42.3, then you’re running the beta.…
  • What icon is showing on those folders in Explorer? You can use the previous post to check which one it is.
  • There shouldn’t be any brown arrows… The only icons we have on files and folders are as follows: Synced (and in terms of Smart Sync, locally stored) Sync in progress A file or folder isn't syncing due to Selective Sync Sync not happening Smart Sync - Online-only content Smart Sync - Folders with both online-only and local…
  • Just so you know, but when you want the folders with the arrows to sync, then you need to check them, and then uncheck the other two folders, 144 and 177. Let us know if we’re misunderstanding something here!
  • Right, since you’re still getting an error message for video uploads, we’d recommend that you email us at https://www.dropbox.com/support/email/dropbox_app/submit so we can check this out here. Let me know when you’ve done so!
  • If that's the case, there is still a small workaround (note that I admittedly haven’t tested it out here…) You can export the file from the Dropbox to your local storage, SD card, wherever you want so long as you remember where it was! Open the file, and depending on your Android settings, you should be able to choose the…
