  • Thanks for the clarification. Since RAM and CPU usage are closely related, could you check out the possible symptoms of the excessive RAM amounts in this article. Let us know how it goes! Mod note: edited to update link in post [last updated 2022]
  • Hi there, if you’re using Smart Sync, and your files are online-only, then they shouldn’t be taking up any space on your device. Could you let us know more about this matter with a screenshot showing the space on your computer and why you believe it’s affecting it? Thanks!
  • Hi there, it’s possible that the anti-virus might have updated its rules for access if there was a recent upgrade. Check your settings in Avast to ensure it’s working fine. Another possibility is that a proxy, VPN, firewall, or even ISP/router issues that could be restricting traffic to the Dropbox domains. Let us know…
  • Hi Richard, could you confirm that the files have the green tick icon when they appear in Explorer? Does this only occur for files in a certain folder, or does it occur throughout the account? Could you try temporarily quitting the Dropbox desktop application to check and see if this happens when it isn’t running. Let us…
  • Thanks for the details, could you ensure that the Dropbox and Excel apps are fully updated via Google Play?
  • Hi Mick, how were you editing the files previously? Did they open in the Dropbox app, or in another app on your Android? Were you accessing the files via the mobile app, or on the Dropbox site directly? Let me know so I can assist further!
  • Hi Blain, sorry to hear about this. Those instructions refer to the registry, which is only found in Windows machines and not Macs. Could you try the steps in the following article to completely uninstall Dropbox and to also close any open processes prior to doing so? Hope this helps!
  • Thanks for getting back to me on this matter. Have a great week ahead!
  • Actually, the OCR works like your wish. You don't need to physically be in a doc to search it. You can just conduct a normal search through the website or mobile app, and provided it was scanned by the mobile app, it will detect that text and bring up that document in the search results.
  • Hi there, firstly, I’m assuming you’re using this on a mobile app associated with a Dropbox Business plan, or a paired personal account. Are you scanning the documents using the built in scanner in the Dropbox mobile app? If not, then it won’t be able to detect the letters since the OCR function only works on docs scanned…
  • Thanks @"Mark", I've merged the threads together to keep the discussion in one location!
  • I understand how you feel. If there was another option I would’ve let you know, but the only method to have your data stored on an EU server is as I mentioned previously.
  • Thanks for the confirmation, I've sent you a message to that address. Please check your emails or spam folder and reply there with the info I requested!
  • We’ll need to look into this further, since there is definitely a shared folder within that parent folder you want to share. Would it be okay if we reach out to you at the email address associated with your Dropbox account to assist further on this matter?
  • Hi there, data stored in Dropbox is located in the EU and US. We continue to offer to host business customers’ files in Europe if they choose this option however the personal data that is entrusted to us is protected equally under GDPR whether it is hosted in Europe or the US. Currently the ability to store files on our…
  • Hi there, most likely there is a folder within that folder which is shared. Even if it is only shared with one person (i.e yourself), it is still technically a shared folder. Could you navigate within that folder to see if any folders have the two person icon, like so? Afterwards you can unshare the folder completely and…
  • Hi Donald, a shared link to a file in your Dropbox is special in that it will ‘follow’ the file. If you move the file to another location in your account, overwrite it with another file or the name name, edit it, and rename the file, the shared link will stay active. This is because each file has its own unique ID, so…
  • I'd just leave it unfortunately. You could contact Microsoft to let them know about this if you wish, though since you know that another app works fine, it's best to continue using that app. In general for all OSes, the built-in apps for mail, zip viewer, image previewer and so on, while effective for most purposes, might…
  • Instead of using the Explorer built-in viewer for zip files, could you use a third party app instead? There are multiple free ones out there on the web, personally I use 7zip at home, so you can use that if you wish. I want to check if 7zip can view the inner files properly, to ensure this isn't an Explorer issue instead…
  • I'm assuming the home PC has the audio test file visible? Keep us posted with any updates tomorrow!
  • This means that the Dropbox desktop application isn’t running, or the file isn’t in the official Dropbox folder somehow. Could you forward a screenshot showing the entire Dropbox folder, to see if any of the files and folder are syncing?
  • A quick glance tells me that the filenames of the zip file are different. Is this intentional, as in, was it renamed? Does the zip file have a green tick on it in the Dropbox folder on your machine, confirming it was synced fully?
  • HI Jeremy, we recent released the ability to view inside zip files on the web, so this is what you’re seeing. Just to confirm, after you click on the zip folder, could you clarify if you’re clicking on the folder, which is the database file, or another folder within the zip folder? Are the audio files located in the…
  • Good to hear it’s working out now!
  • Hey there, even though you remove users from a shared folder, it is still considered shared in our system. Could you check if any of the folders have the two person icon: and then unshare those folders completely? Let us know how it goes!
  • Dragging and dropping images directly into the Showcase should work. Could you try testing it out and letting us know?
  • Thanks for the image, I’ve played about with Showcase a lot so I believe I know the reason for this. While the Showcase is visible, the images (or shared links) themselves are not. Since you’re sharing the images, and you’re viewing it in the Showcase, you can see them. However they’re not showing in the preview due to the…
  • I agree with Elixir, however I do have a warning about step 5. If Windows restores some of the files, it might overwrite the files on the Dropbox site with the older versions, and cause more headaches. Regardless of how Windows restores it, I’d recommend deleting the existing Dropbox folder on the computer and then…
  • You can read up more details about how your data is protected on our servers here. Regarding the second query, local encryption on your hard drive isn’t offered by Dropbox, you’d need a third party app to encrypt your files for you.
  • Thanks for your patience. Firstly, could you check the notifications as they appear in the Dropbox desktop application? If there isn’t any option there to undo this change, could you check the settings online in your account? Keep us posted with any updates!
