Finally! This is awesome and was long due. Congrats to the individual contributors who shipped this! Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips) P.S. I am a volunteer on the Dropbox forums, freely and happily sharing know-how with other users, not affiliated with Dropbox in any way.

Hello @"vladgasan" Any updates on this? Your effort is very much appreciated. Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

Excited and eager to test this. I signed up as soon as I saw the announcement. Any insight on when one would find out if eligible or not for the closed beta? Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

The “Dropbox for Windows update” only affects the way the online-only feature (formerly known as Smart Sync) is implemented in Dropbox. Before the Cloud Files API was developed by Microsoft to be used by cloud storage providers, the online-only feature was implemented by Dropbox using a custom kernel module and is now…

Adding my vote for this. We understand that Dropbox is doing this because they are a public company that needs to show growth on quarterly earnings calls. But annoying paying customers by offering a subpar experience that could only be justified for free users is not going to help. Just make the sharing experience great…

Yes, that could be a solution and could help with hinting to the moderators that the respective thread should be unlocked. It's not elegant, indeed, but since the community doesn't offer more these days, it's the best we have right now. Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

Totally agree with you, @"funwin" Unfortunately, we won't be able to find out why the moderators lock threads. The only thing we know so far is: there are a lot of circumstances that dictate whether threads should be closed or not that are only discussed and visible internally. Which sounds like corporate speak for "we…

Hello @"mberwin" Is this happening on Windows 11? Here to help, Andrew (DBoxTips) P.S. I am a volunteer on the Dropbox forums, freely and happily sharing know-how with other users, not affiliated with Dropbox in any way.

Hello @"filmprodperson" What is the file type for which you are looking to disable downloads? Dropbox currently offers this feature to disable downloads for a shared link, but only for certain file types, for which it implements preview functionality in the browser (so that recipients of the shared link can see the content…

Hello, I'll leave this thread open for other users in case they want to share their own experiences as well. I got great results with a product called Boxifier. It is Windows only (not sure if something similar exists for MacOS), but it is integrated with the Dropbox desktop app and I had a great customer support…

Hello @"Faith J" Sounds like you are experiencing the same issue as recently reported by multiple users, for instance here: https://www.dropboxforum.com/discussions/101001014/banned-for-downloading-a-file-from-someone-elses-link-how-is-this-possible/826384 I haven’t seen any Dropbox representative confirm this as an issue…

Thank you for the reply ,@"Hannah" Could you please explain how this new policy of closing threads to new replies after a period of inactivity is adding value to the Community? I know it’s your forum and you are free to do whatever you like, but I opened this topic because I thought you could benefit from the feedback. In…

Rich wrote: I wasn't forced to sign in Sadly, that's just one of the possibilities, not the rule (aka "it works on my computer"). To put this in the words of Forrest Gump's mother, a Dropbox shared link is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get. If you're on mobile, you're first offered to download…

Great news! This is finally possible in account settings: Congrats to the team! Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

Sorry, looks like I forgot to add the link to the thread: https://www.dropboxforum.com/idea/101002013/enable-create-and-rename-foldersfiles-on-macos-dropbox-application-for-admin-use/827850 Couldn't make the link clickable due to some bug in the editor: Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

Hello @"Walter" Here is a recent thread where @"m_edina_2025" reported the same issue. Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips) P.S. I am a volunteer on the Dropbox forums, freely and happily sharing know-how with other users, not affiliated with Dropbox in any way.

Hi @"Butl Nor" So, will Dropbox ever support this? I am really considering to become a paying user, but without this, it's useless. Most likely they won't. Based on their recent actions and their earnings call with investors, it looks like they are streamlining their core product (Dropbox), removing features and support…

Thank you for the details. Trying to reproduce on my side and will report back here. Andrew (DBoxTips)

That makes sense. I upvoted your idea because I loved and used the Dropbox Vault feature myself. Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips)

Hello @"BullseyeBE", Dropbox actually used to have a feature just like you described, called Dropbox Vault. It has been recently discontinued. Hope this helps, Andrew (DBoxTips) P.S. Here is what I would do. I would try switching between the two ("Admin only" and "Everyone") and let the change get propagated to the Dropbox app on the desktop. The way Dropbox implements this on the desktop is via local folder permissions. So first change it to "Admin only", quit Dropbox on your Mac and start it again.…

Hello @"m_edina_2025" This is a nice proposal. Is this a Dropbox Business account? If so, could you check the value of “Top-level content management” setting in Admin console > Settings > Content? I am wondering if it is set to “Everyone” or “Admin only”. Thanks, Andrew (DBoxTips) P.S. I am a volunteer on the Dropbox…

Adding some additional context to help with understanding this feature request: Such functionality would typically address two user scenarios: * Being able to sync any folder on your computer to a location of your choice in your Dropbox account, without having to move it to your local Dropbox folder. That folder would…

Rich wrote: One of the main reasons is to prevent the stacking of accounts for unlimited storage How would that actually work, though? The space of the account that shares the folder is limited. And if that account's quota is filled, the folder would just stop syncing, just like it does for any user who exceeds their…

Hei @"Energirad" , jeg prøver å gjenskape denne feilen nå. Hvilken versjon av Dropbox-installasjonsprogrammet prøver du med?

Hello@"Clive48" Based on the log that you provided, it appears that you are trying to setup your Dropbox folder on your E: drive. Dropbox is failing to start because it cannot create the E:\Dropbox\.dropbox.cache folder due to insufficient permissions. What kind of drive is the E: drive? Is it internal or external? Does it…

Hello @"Jarno R." Looking at the note at the bottom of the screenshot that you shared, it says files and folders in the Family Room folder automatically allow edit access to all Family plan members. So this means you can only get view/edit settings with regular shared folders, but not with folders in the "Family Room". All…

I also noticed this when trying to access a view link to a folder shared from a Dropbox Business account, while being logged into a personal Dropbox account. See screenshot below (I blurred private information). It appears as if Dropbox were actively pushing users to join Dropbox teams in order to boost their numbers (used…

Just wondering how OneDrive is involved here. I imagine OneDrive syncs the files in its own folder, while Dropbox has its own separate folder. Is there any overlap between the two or some other software that could be moving files out of the Dropbox folder? Another place I would look at is the https://dropbox.com/events…
