Thanks for the info. I guess it is what it is... (User-facing logging and reporting is certainly not a strength of Dropbox...)

Thank you @"vladgasan" . So I can use this now without applying for the bet program, right?

I found out what I did wrong: I have to use xattr -w com.dropbox.ignored 1 ... instead of xattr -d com.dropbox.ignored ... The doco does explain this correctly. (I just copied the wrong command line). However Dropbox support here in the forum was pretty slow and hopeless. They weren't able to point this out yet.

Not sure why you can't see it. I can see it just above your reply.... In any case, I paste it here again: (It shows first ls with output, then the xattr command.) Also find the image here too: https://i.imgur.com/iDn3eW1.png

I sent the screenshot as a general reply. Please let me know what I can do.

I tried the following in Terminal.app on macOS: How can I make the direcory .venv beeing ignored? Thanks for your help!

So what can I do??? No reply anymore... :-(

Thanks for letting me know, Megan. But it is a shame that rule-based ignoring is not possible.

Thanks for looking at this, Megan. I am not using Dropbox with File Provider. My Dropbox folder is at ~/Dropbox and I want to keep it way. How can I ignore a specific folder I can see in Finder as been synced to Dropbox?

Hi there I just got a "Couldn't sync files" notification which points to a folder with the following name: .~ Why do I get the notification now? The folder has a time stamp from 2010 and has not changed its location in the last couple of years. So if this folder is trouble for Dropbox this should have been complained about…
