Since it doesn't seem there will be a change back to the old sync icon meanings, any word on if we can just simply get one more icon to denote if a folder has mixed online/offline files in it? This one update would fix so much of the problem. Reverting back to the old/better sync icon meanings would solve the problem…

Thanks for all that great information @"Rich" ! That helps me understand it a lot better. Really appreciate quick and detailed response!

Since this thread won't seem to let votes be cast any more, I created a new idea post, if anyone would like to up vote the idea and try to keep it front of mind for Dropbox. https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/A-selective-sync-icon-for-quot-mixed-quot-folders/idi-p/626868#M76064

Since Dropbox changed the meaning/usage of the selective sync icons, Dropbox has been impossibly more difficult to use on a day to day basis. The previous and vastly superior selective sync icons were so perfect—at a quick glance you knew if a folder was fully online only, fully offline, or a mixture of both. It gave you…

@"Rua" I'm really confused how this thread got marked as "solved," when clearly the issue is not solved. Thank you for taking the time to give the response that you did. It is great to have a dropboxer in here willing to dialogue. However, your response did not "solve" this issue. Instead it explained what we all…

@"Walter" @"Jay" @"Greg-DB" @"Nancy" @"sukrith" @"Lusil" @"Hannah" @"Megan" Just checking in since it's been about a week. Can any Dropboxer respond to my post above? For reference, here is my comment again: Can we get someone at Dropbox to please respond on this thread? We all care about the Dropbox product—we are such…

@"Walter" @"Jay" @"Greg-DB" @"Nancy" @"sukrith" @"Lusil" tagging you all because I've seen you respond on other threads recently. Can we get someone at Dropbox to please respond on this thread? We all care about the Dropbox product—we are such devoted users we are taking the time to engage and interact here, in the hopes…

@"Hannah" @"Megan" tagging you since you've replied on this thread previously. Can we get someone at Dropbox to please respond on this thread? I still just can't understand why Dropbox did this. And nothing I've heard from Dropbox comes close to explaining it. It's like Dropbox was a world class runner... and then decided to break its own leg... and actually thought breaking its leg would help to run faster. Mind boggling. @"dbox_" Can we get a response to this…

@"jackprest" Thanks for sharing that. Agree it's not the ideal solution but at least it offers some kind of workaround. And at this point, I'll take whatever workaround I can get! (And to be clear, the "ideal" solution would indeed be just going back to the previous, far superior icon system) Thanks again for sharing!

@"Jay", do you know if Dropbox will be addressing the broader issue over on this thread, where the topic is gathering support? https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Dropbox-ideas/Can-we-have-the-old-syncing-icons-back/idc-p/617172#M75584

Has anyone heard any new responses from Dropbox lately? This change has been so debilitating. It's been weeks of lost productivity now...I'm not sure how much longer I can hold out.
-
Someone from Dropbox mentioned that it could help to up vote this idea and that ideas with the most up votes regularly get reviewed by the Dropbox team. If you have a sec, it could help for everyone to go give it an up vote, and maybe comment on that thread as well.
-
@"leandrosilva" thanks for sharing! Hopefully enough people reach out to Dropbox for it to make a difference.

Yeah, the old system was really perfect in the way it solved dropbox's biggest downfall, ie. disk space. That's the one thing people would consistently bring up to me as an excuse not to use Dropbox. But then I'd tell them about smart syncing and the (old) icon system, and that would win them over. That was the same thing…

There's a longer thread about this issue over here, if anyone is interested to comment there: https://www.dropboxforum.com/t5/Create-upload-and-share/Syncing-icons-on-the-files-in-the-Dropbox-folder-have-changed/td-p/610037/

Just for clarity for anyone skimming through... when I reached out to Dropbox support about the icon issue, this was the explanation they gave: --------------------------------- Dropbox Support Response --------------------------------- We’ve recently updated our sync icons to give you a more accurate idea of what sync…

Agreed. If they don't revert back to the previous icon system I might have to find another service for my company to use. Yeah, hopefully Dropbox monitors this and takes note. When I contacted Dropbox help, it was them who pointed me to this forum, saying it was monitored by Dropbox and the best way to communicate…

I had the same issue and reached out to Dropbox help. The below explanation was included in the response: ----------------------------- [Dropbox help response] ----------------------------- We’ve recently updated our sync icons to give you a more accurate idea of what sync state your files and folders are in. For example:…

I totally agree with you, the new icon system is bad and causing me a ton of previously unnecessary frustration. It's so hard now to free up space. The new updated icon categorization makes it impossible to know what folders have offlined files buried within them. I generally love Dropbox—and literally it was the old icon…
-
100% agree. Dropbox, please go back to the old system with the icons. The new way of categorizing the icons is useless and actually makes things so much worse. I'm working with so many files, and such large file sizes, and daily I need to switch around what files are local vs online only. So I need to quickly see at a…
