It's mysteriously started working again (icon appeared without any further action). Maybe something was interfering with it temporarily. Thanks for the prompt responses, if it reoccurs I'll try the reinstall and report back to confirm how it went.

Thanks. Can you confirm if this will retain all my current settings (with the partial folder sync settings still saved so I don't need to worry about moving folders/resyncing when I'm not sure which folders have been excluded)?

Yes I did and opening the app just opens the Dropbox folder, not the Dropbox UI (I think this has always been the case with your app?). Here's a screenshot of the taskbar.
